This topic describes the cause of the "S4_* An error occurred in the initialization of the destination disk partition." error message that is reported when you use Server Migration Center (SMC) to run a migration job. This topic also describes how to resolve the error.
Problem description
During an SMC migration job, the "S4_* An error occurred in the initialization of the destination disk partition." error message is reported. The following S4_* error codes may be reported:
S4_105
S4_U28, S4_U7, S4_U56, and S4_U6
Cause
An error occurred when the SMC client initialized the destination disk partitions. The following list describes the possible causes of different error codes:
S4_105: The specified size of the destination disk is insufficient.
S4_U28, S4_U7, S4_U56, and S4_U6
An exception occurs on port 8080 that is used by the intermediate service of the destination instance.
The source server cannot access the IP address of the destination instance by using port 8080.
Solution
Resolve the error based on the error code.
S4_105
Perform the following operations if the sum of the specified size of the destination disk partitions and the default size of the disk partition header is less than the size of the destination disk. The default size of the disk partition header is 1 MB.
Solution 1: Expand the size of the destination disk of the destination instance by 1 GB and try again.
Solution 2: Create another migration job and increase the size of the destination disk by 1 GB. Then, try again.
S4_U28, S4_U7, S4_U56, and S4_U6
For more information about the solution, see What do I do if I receive an S11 error code indicating an error in the network connection to the intermediate service of the destination instance?
After the error is resolved, run the SMC client and retry the migration job. For more information, see Run the SMC client.
