A service quota is the maximum number of cloud resources or operations that can be used by an Alibaba Cloud account. This topic describes the quotas for Application Load Balancer (ALB), including their default values and whether they can be increased.
Quotas are set on a per-region or per-account basis. Quotas are categorized into the following types:
General quotas: the limits on cloud resources that are available to an Alibaba Cloud account.
API rate limits: the limits on API calls that an Alibaba Cloud account can make in a specific period of time. API rate limits are also known as QPS limits.
Privileges: Permissions granted by Alibaba Cloud to an account to use advanced features. You can apply for ALB privileges to gain access to advanced ALB features that are not available by default.
ALB provides general quotas, API rate limits, and privileges. You can apply for increases on some of the quotas. You can view and manage quotas in the Alibaba Cloud Quota Center console or on the Quota Center page of the ALB. For more information about how to manage ALB quotas, see Manage ALB quotas.
General quotas
The following table describes the general quotas of ALB.
The default quota values listed in this topic are for reference only. The actual default values in the console take precedence.
Instance quotas
Quota name | Description | Default value | Maximum value | Adjustable |
alb_quota_loadbalancers_num | Maximum number of ALB instances that each Alibaba Cloud account can have in a region | 60 | 150 |
Basic ALB instance quotas
Quota name | Description | Default value | Maximum value | Adjustable |
alb_quota_loadbalancer_certificates_num_basic_edition | Maximum number of additional certificates that can be added to an ALB instance (excluding default certificates) | 10 | 150
alb_quota_loadbalancer_rules_num_basic_edition | Maximum number of forwarding rules that can be configured for an ALB instance (excluding default forwarding rules) | 40 | 100
alb_quota_loadbalancer_servers_num_basic_edition | Maximum number of backend servers that can be added to an ALB instance | 200 | 400

alb_quota_max_idle_timeout | Maximum timeout period for an idle connection when a listener is created | 600 seconds | 3600 seconds |
Only upgraded ALB instances support increasing thealb_quota_max_request_timeoutandalb_quota_max_idle_timeoutquotas to 3600 seconds. Non-upgraded ALB instances support increasing these two quotas to at most 900 seconds.

Privileges
A privilege quota with a default value of 0 indicates that the corresponding feature is unavailable by default. To use the feature, you must apply for the privilege. The following table describes the available privileges for ALB.
Starting from 00:00:00 on February 25, 2025 (UTC+8), all new ALB instances will be upgraded instances. Existing instances will be automatically upgraded on the backend after this date. You will be notified before the upgrade.
ALB instances created at or after 00:00:00 on February 25, 2025 (UTC+8) are upgraded versions.
For non-upgraded ALB instances, Alibaba Cloud will upgrade them on the backend sometime after 00:00:00 on February 25, 2025 (UTC+8). We will notify you before the backend upgrade is performed.
