Smart Access Gateway:WAN and 4G link backup

Last Updated:Jul 17, 2026

By default, Smart Access Gateway (SAG) devices use a WAN connection as the active link and a 4G connection as the standby link for redundant Internet access. If the active link fails, traffic automatically fails over to the standby link.

Prerequisites

A 4G SIM card with a data plan from an ISP is inserted into the Smart Access Gateway device.

Background information

Each SAG device ships with a 4G SIM card that only receives configuration information from the cloud and cannot transmit data traffic. To use 4G as a standby link, purchase a separate 4G SIM card with a data plan from an ISP and insert it into the device. This card carries your data traffic if the active WAN link fails.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Smart Access Gateway console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Smart Access Gateway.
  3. Find the target SAG instance and click the instance ID.
  4. In the left-side navigation pane of the displayed page, click HA Configuration.
  5. In the HA Configuration section, view the status of the WAN and 4G links.
