Serverless App Engine (SAE) integrates with the Application Monitoring module of Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS), giving Standard Edition applications access to global tracing and application topology analysis. Advanced monitoring is disabled by default — enable it when you need deeper observability, and disable it when you're done to stop billing.
With advanced monitoring enabled, you can:
Trace requests end to end using ARMS global tracing to pinpoint where latency or errors occur across services
Visualize service dependencies with application topology to identify bottlenecks and unexpected call patterns
Billing
Advanced monitoring involves separate cost layers:
ARMS: Billed separately by ARMS once the feature is active. See ARMS billing for pricing details.
For long-term use, upgrading to the Professional Edition is more cost-effective than running advanced monitoring on a Standard Edition application. See Versions for a comparison.
For temporary monitoring needs, disable the feature after use to avoid ongoing ARMS charges.
Enable advanced monitoring
Advanced monitoring is disabled by default on Standard Edition applications.
Log on to the SAE console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Applications > Applications. Select a region from the top navigation bar and a namespace from the Namespace drop-down list, then click the name of your application.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Application Monitoring > Advanced Monitoring.
On the Advanced Monitoring page, click Enable ARMS Advanced Monitoring. Once enabled, click Go to ARMS Advanced Monitoring to open the ARMS console.

ARMS begins billing as soon as the feature is active. For details on what you can do in the ARMS console, see View monitoring details.
Disable advanced monitoring
On the Advanced Monitoring page, click Disable ARMS Advanced Monitoring. Once disabled, the billing stops.
