Schedule the maintenance window to an off-peak period so that system-initiated maintenance occurs when your workloads are least active. The default window is 02:00–06:00 (UTC+8).
Before you begin
Make sure your application is configured to automatically reconnect to the RDS instance. During the maintenance window, one or two instance switchovers occur. For details on the impact of a switchover, see Impacts of an instance switchover.
What happens during the maintenance window
When the maintenance window opens, the instance enters the Maintaining Instance state. The following table describes the availability of operations in this state.
| Category | Operations | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Data operations | Database access, query, performance monitoring | Not affected |
| Management operations | Account management, database management, IP address whitelist configuration | Available |
| Modification operations | Upgrade, downgrade, restart, and other changes | Temporarily unavailable |
Before maintenance starts, the system sends an email notification to the contacts associated with your Alibaba Cloud account.
