Enterprise SSDs (ESSDs) provide four performance levels (PLs): PL0, PL1, PL2, and PL3, to meet the requirements of various application scenarios. You can adjust the PL of an ESSD based on workload changes to balance performance and costs. This topic describes how to change the PL of an ESSD.
Background information
For more information about the performance of the four ESSD performance levels, see ESSD overview.
Prerequisites
The ESSD must be in the In Use or To Be Attached status.
If the ESSD is attached to an RDS Custom instance, the instance must be in the Running or Suspended status. The RDS Custom instance cannot be in the Expired status or have an overdue payment.
Limits
You can upgrade or downgrade the PL of an ESSD, but you cannot downgrade an ESSD to PL0.
The PL that you can select for an ESSD depends on its capacity. If you cannot select a higher PL for your ESSD, you can first Step 1: Scale out the disk capacity, and then upgrade the PL of the ESSD. For more information about the minimum capacity of disks at different PLs, see ESSD specifications.
Billing
After you upgrade the PL of an ESSD, the bill is calculated based on the unit price of the new PL. We recommend that you change the PL only when necessary.
Procedure
Log on to the ApsaraDB RDS console.
Change the PL of an ESSD using one of the following methods.
If you want to change the PL of an ESSD that is attached to an instance, we recommend that you perform this operation on the instance page.
In the navigation pane on the left, click RDS Custom > Instances, and then select a region at the top.
Click the target instance to open the instance details page.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Storage Information.
In the Actions column of the target disk, click
> Change Performance Level.
If you want to change the PL of a specific ESSD, we recommend that you perform this operation on the Storage and Snapshots page.
In the navigation pane on the left, click RDS Custom > Storage and Snapshots, and then select a region at the top.
In the Actions column of the target disk, click
> Change Performance Level.
You can also click Change Performance Level on the Basic Information page of the disk.

On the page that opens, select the target Storage Class, which is the performance level (PL).
NoteThe PL that you can select for an ESSD depends on its capacity. If you cannot select a higher PL for your ESSD, you can first Step 1: Scale out the disk capacity, and then upgrade the PL of the ESSD. For more information about the minimum capacity of disks at different PLs, see ESSD specifications.
Read the Notes, select the terms of service and the service level agreement, and then click Buy Now.
