ESSDs (Enterprise SSDs) offer four performance levels (PLs): PL0, PL1, PL2, and PL3 to suit various application requirements. You can adjust the performance level of an ESSD as your workload changes to balance performance and cost.
Background information
For the performance specifications of each ESSD performance level, see ESSD overview.
Prerequisites
-
The ESSD must be in the In Use or Pending state.
-
If the ESSD is attached to an RDS Custom instance, the instance must be in the Running or Suspended state. The RDS Custom instance cannot be in the Expired state, and you must not have any overdue payments.
Limits
-
You can upgrade or downgrade the performance level of an ESSD, but you cannot downgrade an ESSD to PL0.
-
An ESSD's available performance levels depend on its capacity. If a higher performance level is unavailable, you may need to first increase the disk capacity. For the minimum capacity requirements of each performance level, see ESSD specifications.
Billing
After you change the performance level of an ESSD, you are charged based on the pricing of the new performance level. Change the performance level only when necessary to meet your business needs.
