Quick BI:Perform Interactive Analysis in an Ad Hoc Analysis

Last Updated:May 10, 2024

This topic describes interactive analysis in an ad hoc analysis.

Drill down and roll up dimension values

If you use a hierarchical structure for the dimension fields in a dataset, you can drill down only the dimension fields that are not in the last layer in the hierarchy. You can perform the drill-down operations for data queries in a finer-grained manner.

For example, in the geographic hierarchy shown in the following figure, you can drill down from the original region to the province, and drill down from the province to the city.

You can drill down or roll up the column dimension fields. For example, you can drill down the date dimension in the table header from the year dimension to the quarter dimension and then to the month dimension. 67.gif

Show

If you use a hierarchical structure for all dimension fields in a dataset, you can expand only the dimension fields that are not in the last layer in the hierarchy. When you perform the drill-down operation, you can view only the data at the next layer. When you perform the expand operation, you can view multiple layers of data at the same time. After you expand the dimension field to the last layer in the hierarchy, the Expand menu is dimmed.

The expansion is based on the entire dimension to which the currently selected row dimension belongs. For example, here is the dimension area. Select the dimension value of Northwest and click Expand. Finally, all values of province are added. 68.gif

Ad hoc analysis also supports the expansion of dimension values at different levels. For example, the table in the following figure originally shows the data of Central China and North China and the four provinces of Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian. When you expand the dimension values, the dimension values are automatically expanded to the next level based on the level. The dimension values that have reached the last level can be automatically merged and no longer expanded. 69.gif
