This topic describes the regions and zones supported by PrivateLink.
Regions and zones
A region is a geographic area where a data center is located. You cannot change the region of a resource after it is created. A zone is a physical area within a region that has independent power and network infrastructure. Instances deployed in the same zone have lower network latency.
Each region is fully independent. Each zone is completely isolated, but zones within the same region are connected over low-latency links.
Zones within the same region can communicate over the internal network. Zones provide fault isolation — if one zone fails, the other zones continue to operate normally. Whether to deploy instances in the same zone depends on your requirements for disaster recovery and network latency.
If your application requires high disaster recovery capabilities, we recommend that you deploy instances in different zones within the same region.
If your application requires low network latency between instances, we recommend that you deploy instances in the same zone.

Regions and zones that support PrivateLink
PrivateLink users fall into two categories based on their use case: service consumers and service providers.
Service consumers are users who access services by creating endpoints.
Service providers are users who create endpoint services and use Alibaba Cloud resources (such as Server Load Balancer (SLB) and Elastic Compute Service (ECS)) to build services that service consumers can access.
Service consumers
As a service consumer, you can use PrivateLink to access Alibaba Cloud services or user-created services. The regions and zones you can access depend on whether the services are available in the corresponding regions and zones.
Service providers
As a service provider, you must check the regions and zones supported by PrivateLink based on your service resource type. You can create endpoint services and deploy service resources only in supported regions and zones to provide private network connection services for service consumers.
