This topic describes the regions and zones that support PrivateLink.
Regions and zones
Regions are geolocations of data centers. After you create a cloud resource, you cannot change the region in which the cloud resource is deployed. Each region has multiple isolated locations known as zones. Each zone has its own independent power supply and network. The network latency between instances that reside in the same zone is lower than the network latency between instances that reside in different zones.
Regions are independent of each other. Zones are completely isolated. However, zones in the same region can be connected with low-latency links.
Zones within the same region can communicate with each other over an internal network. Fault isolation can be enabled between zones. This way, if faults occur in a zone, other zones are not affected and continue to run as expected. We recommend that you deploy instances within the same zone or across zones based on your business requirements for disaster recovery and network latency.
If your application requires high disaster recovery capabilities, we recommend that you deploy instances in different zones of the same region.
If your application requires low latency, we recommend that you deploy instances within the same zone.
The following figure shows the relationship between regions and zones.
Regions and zones that support PrivateLink
Users of PrivateLink can be divided into the following types: service customers and service providers.
A service consumer is a user who accesses a service by creating an endpoint.
A service provider is a user who creates an endpoint service and uses Alibaba Cloud resources such as Server Load Balancer (SLB) and Elastic Compute Service (ECS) to build the service.
Service consumer
As a service consumer, you can access Alibaba Cloud services or user-created services through PrivateLink. The specific accessible regions and zones depend on whether these services are activated in the corresponding regions and zones.
Service provider
As a service provider, you need to view the regions and zones supported by PrivateLink based on the service resource type. You can create endpoint services only in supported regions and zones. You can deploy service resources in supported regions and zones to provide services to service consumers.
The regions and zones in the following table are for reference only. The regions and zones on the buy page shall prevail.
