PrivateLink:Regions and zones that support PrivateLink

Last Updated:Jul 17, 2024

You can establish PrivateLink connections to access services on Alibaba Cloud. Network traffic does not traverse the Internet when PrivateLink is used. This prevents security risks over the Internet.

Regions and zones

A region is a geographic location where Alibaba Cloud data centers are deployed. After a resource is created, you cannot change the region of the resource. Each region has multiple isolated locations known as zones. Each zone has its own independent power supply and network. The network latency between instances that are deployed in the same zone is lower than the network latency between instances that are deployed in different zones.

Zones within the same region can access each other over an internal network. When a zone is down, other zones are not affected. We recommend that you deploy instances within the same zone or across zones based on your business requirements for disaster recovery and network latency.

  • If your application requires high disaster recovery capabilities, we recommend that you deploy instances in different zones of the same region.

  • If your application requires low latency, we recommend that you deploy instances within the same zone.
