A PolarDB-X 1.0 instance separates compute and storage into two layers. The compute layer is a distributed cluster of multiple Distributed Relational Database Service (DRDS) server nodes. The storage layer holds your business data across multiple ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instances attached to the PolarDB-X 1.0 instance. All PolarDB-X 1.0 instances are dedicated instances.

Instance types

Primary instance — The main instance type for scaling single-instance relational databases. Primary instances handle real-time online transactions at high concurrency.

Dedicated instance — An instance with exclusive physical resources. Currently, all PolarDB-X 1.0 instances are dedicated instances.
