PolarDB for PostgreSQL Standard Edition uses a shared storage architecture backed by enterprise SSDs (ESSDs). Storage is billed based on the ESSD capacity you provision, not actual data usage. Two billing methods are available: pay-as-you-go and subscription. Prices vary by region, ESSD type, and deployment configuration.
If you provision 500 GB but use only 200 GB, you are still charged for 500 GB. Right-size your provisioned capacity to avoid unnecessary costs.
Deployment configuration and pricing
Dual-zone deployments (with hot standby storage cluster enabled) cost more than single-zone deployments because storage is replicated across availability zones for higher availability. The following deployment configurations are available:
Dual-zone deployment (hot standby storage cluster enabled): Storage is replicated across two availability zones.
Dual-zone deployment (hot standby storage cluster and compute standby enabled): Same price as dual-zone with hot standby storage cluster enabled.
Single-zone deployment (hot standby storage cluster disabled): Storage is deployed in a single availability zone at a lower price.
Pay-as-you-go
Storage is billed hourly per GB based on the region, ESSD type, and deployment configuration of your cluster.

Provisioned capacity billing: Storage is billed based on the capacity you provision, not actual data usage. Right-size your cluster to avoid paying for unused capacity.

ESSD AutoPL IOPS billing: For ESSD AutoPL, provisioned IOPS are billed separately in addition to disk storage space. The IOPS rate is the same across all regions for a given deployment configuration.
Billing method selection: Pay-as-you-go suits variable or short-term workloads. Subscription offers a lower effective rate for stable, long-running clusters.
