Before maintenance runs
PolarDB performs maintenance operations on clusters periodically to maintain stability. Understanding what happens before and during maintenance helps you plan accordingly.
Notifications
PolarDB sends SMS messages and emails to the contacts listed in your Alibaba Cloud account before maintenance begins.
Under Maintenance state
The cluster enters the Under Maintenance state before the scheduled maintenance window starts. In this state:

Transient disconnections
During the maintenance window, the cluster may experience one or two transient disconnections. The cluster returns to the normal state immediately after each disconnection. Make sure your application has an automatic reconnection mechanism.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
A PolarDB cluster
Access to the PolarDB console
Set the maintenance window
Log on to the PolarDB console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Clusters.
In the upper-left corner, select the region where the cluster is deployed.
Find the cluster and click its ID.
On the Basic Information page, click Modify next to Maintenance Window.
In the Modify Maintenance Window dialog box, select a maintenance window and click OK.
Select a window during off-peak hours to reduce the impact on your business.
