PolarDB:Unsubscription refund after an upgrade

Last Updated:Mar 30, 2026

After a major engine version upgrade, if the source cluster is no longer needed, submit a ticket to apply for an unsubscription refund. The refund amount is based on the remaining subscription period of the source cluster.

Prerequisites

Before you apply, make sure both of the following conditions are met:

  • The billing method of both the source PolarDB cluster and the new PolarDB cluster is Subscription.

  • The creation method of the new PolarDB cluster is Upgrade/Migrate from PolarDB, and the subscription order amount of the new cluster is higher than the refund amount of the source cluster.

Apply for a refund

Important

Do not use the self-service unsubscription feature to apply for this refund. Use the ticket process described below.

After you complete the major engine version upgrade and confirm that your business is stable on the new cluster, submit a ticket to contact customer service and apply for a refund.

Refund calculation

The refund is based on the order amount you paid when purchasing the source cluster and the remaining subscription period at the time of application.

Formula: Refund = (Remaining period / Full period) × Order amount

Example: The source cluster has a one-year subscription. The list price is USD 20,000 and the order amount is USD 10,000. If you switch your business to the new cluster after six months and apply for a refund, the refund is USD 5,000.

For details on where the refund is credited, see Unsubscription fund flow on the Alibaba Cloud International website.

For example, assume the annual price of the source PolarDB cluster is USD 20,000 and the subscription duration is one year. The actual amount paid after a discount (Order amount) is USD 10,000. After six months, you upgrade your services from the source PolarDB cluster to a new PolarDB cluster and request an unsubscription refund after upgrade. Your refund amount is USD 5,000.
