Object Storage Service:Upload objects using presigned URLs generated with OSS SDK for PHP 1.0

Last Updated:Jun 04, 2026

OSS objects are private by default. You can generate a presigned URL with OSS SDK for PHP to allow others to upload objects to your bucket within a specified validity period. The URL supports multiple uploads during its validity period, and the uploaded object may be overwritten. After the validity period ends, you must generate a new presigned URL.

Notes

  • In this topic, the public endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. To access OSS from other Alibaba Cloud services in the same region, use an internal endpoint. For details about supported regions and endpoints, see Regions and Endpoints.

  • This topic uses access credentials from environment variables. For more information about how to configure access credentials, see Configure access credentials (PHP SDK V1).

  • To generate a presigned URL for object upload, you must have the oss:PutObject permission. For more information, see Grant a custom policy.

    Note

    The SDK generates presigned URLs locally on the client without sending server requests, so no special permissions are required for URL generation. However, the caller must have the permissions required by the operations that the presigned URL authorizes.

  • This topic uses V4 presigned URLs with a validity period of up to seven days. For more information, see (Recommended) V4 signatures in presigned URLs.

  • The generated presigned URL may contain a plus sign (+). Replace the plus sign (+) in the URL with %2B. Otherwise, the URL may not work as expected.

  • To generate an HTTPS presigned URL, set the endpoint protocol to HTTPS.

Process

The following flowchart shows how to upload an object to OSS by using a presigned URL with HTTP PUT.

Sample code

  1. The object owner generates a presigned URL that allows HTTP PUT requests.

    <?php
    if (is_file(__DIR__ . '/../autoload.php')) {
        require_once __DIR__ . '/../autoload.php';
    }
    if (is_file(__DIR__ . '/../vendor/autoload.php')) {
        require_once __DIR__ . '/../vendor/autoload.php';
    }

    use OSS\OssClient;
    use OSS\Core\OssException;
    use OSS\Http\RequestCore;
    use OSS\Http\ResponseCore;
    use OSS\Credentials\EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;

    // Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
    $provider = new EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
    // Specify the endpoint of the region in which the bucket is located. For example, if the bucket is located in the China (Hangzhou) region, set the endpoint to https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com.
    $endpoint = "yourEndpoint";
    // Specify the name of the bucket.
    $bucket= "examplebucket";
    // Specify the full path of the object. Do not include the bucket name in the full path of the object.
    $object = "exampleobject.txt";
    // Set the validity period of the presigned URL to 600 seconds. Maximum value: 32400.
    $timeout = 600;
    try {
        $config = array(
            "provider" => $provider,
            "endpoint" => $endpoint,
            'signatureVersion'=>OssClient::OSS_SIGNATURE_VERSION_V4,
            "region"=> "cn-hangzhou"
        );
        $ossClient = new OssClient($config);
        // Generate the presigned URL.
        $signedUrl = $ossClient->signUrl($bucket, $object, $timeout, "PUT");
        print_r($signedUrl);
    } catch (OssException $e) {
        printf(__FUNCTION__ . ": FAILED\n");
        printf($e->getMessage() . "\n");
        return;
    }
  2. Upload an object by using the presigned URL.

    browser.js

    Important

    If you encounter a 403 signature mismatch error when you use Browser.js to upload a file, it is usually because the browser automatically adds the Content-Type request header, but this header was not specified when the presigned URL was generated. This causes a signature verification failure. To resolve this issue, you must specify the Content-Type request header when you generate the presigned URL.

Another scenario

Generate a presigned URL that includes the versionId header

The following sample code generates a presigned URL that includes the versionId header:

<?php
  if (is_file(__DIR__ . '/../autoload.php')) {
  require_once __DIR__ . '/../autoload.php';
  }
  if (is_file(__DIR__ . '/../vendor/autoload.php')) {
  require_once __DIR__ . '/../vendor/autoload.php';
  }
