ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ:Change the edition of an instance

Last Updated:Jan 26, 2024

ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ provides Standard Edition and Enterprise Platinum Edition instances and allows you to change between instance editions. ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ Standard Edition instances are billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method and are suitable for scenarios in which the number of messages is small or fluctuates. ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ Enterprise Platinum Edition instances are billed based on the subscription billing method and are suitable for scenarios in which high service level agreement (SLA) is required or the number of messages is large and stable. If your business scenario changes, you can change the edition of your instance without the need to create a new instance.

Background information

ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ provides Standard Edition and Enterprise Platinum Edition instances. The two editions of instances use different billing methods. After you change the edition of an instance, the billing method that is used by the instance also changes.

  • Standard Edition instances are billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.

  • Enterprise Platinum Edition instances are billed based on the subscription billing method.

Compared with Standard Edition instances, Enterprise Platinum Edition instances provide more features. For information about the specification differences between instance editions, see Instance editions.

Change an instance from Standard Edition to Enterprise Platinum Edition

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances. In the top navigation bar of the page that appears, select the region where the instance that you want to manage resides.

  2. On the Instances page, find the instance that you want to manage and click the instance name. In the upper-right corner of the Instance Details page, click Upgrade to Enterprise Platinum Edition.

Note
  • When you upgrade an instance from Standard Edition to Enterprise Platinum Edition, the ID and endpoint of the instance are not changed. During the upgrade, the instance can run and messages can be sent and received as expected.

  • After you upgrade an instance from Standard Edition to Enterprise Platinum Edition, you cannot immediately change the instance back to Standard Edition. If you want to change the edition of the instance back to Standard Edition, you can configure the Post-expiration Action parameter and wait until the instance expires. For more information, see Change an instance from Enterprise Platinum Edition to Standard Edition.

Change an instance from Enterprise Platinum Edition to Standard Edition

Procedure

Important

Strictly follow the following steps to change an instance from Enterprise Platinum Edition to Standard Edition.

  1. Change the value of the Post-expiration Action parameter of the instance to Downgrade to Standard Edition.

    1. Log on to the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances. In the top navigation bar of the page that appears, select the region where the instance that you want to manage resides.

    2. On the Instances page, find the instance that you want to manage and click the instance name. The Instance Details page appears.

    3. In the upper-right corner of the Instance Details page, click Edit next to Post-expiration Action. In the panel that appears, change the Post-expiration Action parameter to Downgrade to Standard Edition.

  2. Unsubscribe from the instance or wait until the instance expires. To unsubscribe from the instance, perform the following operations:

    1. Log on to the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console. In the top navigation bar, choose Expenses > User Center. In the left-side navigation pane of the User Center, click Refund.

    2. On the Refund page, select Partial Refund for the Type parameter, find the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ instance from which you want to unsubscribe, click Unsubscribe Resource in the Actions column, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the unsubscription.

After the instance is unsubscribed or expires, it is immediately changed to Standard Edition and billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method. For information about the billing details, see Billing overview.

Note
  • By default, the Post-release Action parameter of an Enterprise Platinum Edition instance is set to Delete Resource. After an instance is unsubscribed or expires, the instance itself and the topics and groups on the instance are deleted and cannot be restored. You can change the value of the Post-release Action parameter of an instance only after the instance is created.

  • By default, an Enterprise Platinum Edition instance is released seven days after the instance expires. Even if you set the Post-expiration Action parameter of an instance to Downgrade to Standard Edition, you still receive a notification that indicates the instance is to be released. In this case, you can ignore the notification.
