MaxCompute supports various connection tools. Select the tool that best fits your use case and follow the instructions to prepare your environment.

Connection tool categories

Use cases: Quick start, lightweight data analysis, and permission management.

Environment requirements	We recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome.
Access	Log in to the MaxCompute console and select a region in the upper-left corner. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Exploration > SQL Analysis.
Instructions	Connect to MaxCompute using SQL analysis

Use cases: Process data using the command line.

Item	Cloud Shell (odpscmd)	MaxCompute client (odpscmd)
Environment requirements	No installation is required.	JDK 1.8 or later. Install the MaxCompute client.
Limitations	Limitations apply to supported regions, the number of virtual machines, session windows, termination due to inactivity or expiration, file storage, and prohibited operations. For more information, see Limitations.	None.

Use cases: In-depth Java and Python development, and user-defined function (UDF) debugging.

Environment requirements	IntelliJ IDEA 18.2.4 or later (Ultimate or the free Community edition), or a PyCharm-based IDE. JDK 1.8 or later (required for developing and debugging Java UDFs).

Use cases: Visual development, data integration, data services, and periodic scheduling of jobs.
