Qoder CN Series:Use folders effectively

Last Updated:Jul 10, 2026

Organize your files into a folder and set it as your working directory to get the most out of QoderWork CN.

Over half of the use cases for QoderWork CN involve reading files directly from a local folder. Properly organizing your folders and selecting one as a working directory is essential to getting the most from QoderWork CN.

The following example walks through the process using a teacher who manages class exam scores.

Why select a working directory?

In QoderWork CN, you can select a local folder as your working directory. Once selected:

  • QoderWork CN reads all files in the folder directly, so you do not have to upload them one by one.

  • Processing results are saved back to the folder automatically, so you do not have to download them manually.

  • When you add new files, QoderWork CN recognizes and processes them immediately.

Just organize your files, and let QoderWork CN do the rest.

Get started in three steps

Step 1: Organize folders

Place files for the same topic or task into a single folder. Use clear folder names and consistent file naming conventions.

Step 2: Select a working directory

Create a task in QoderWork CN, then click Select Working Directory at the bottom of the dialog box and choose that folder. QoderWork CN can then directly access all files in the folder.

Step 3: Describe your needs

Simply describe your requirements. QoderWork CN identifies the files in the folder and processes them automatically.

Example: Managing class scores

This example shows how a teacher organizes folders and uses QoderWork CN to analyze exam data.

Scenario

Ms. Zhang is a middle school math teacher. After every exam, she receives a score sheet in an Excel file. Over the course of a semester, she has accumulated data from four exams in a folder. She wants a comprehensive overview of her class's performance: which students are improving, who needs extra attention, and how the class's overall performance has changed.

Step 1: Organize the folder

Ms. Zhang creates a folder on her desktop named Grade-9-Class-2_Math-Scores and places the score sheet from each exam inside:

Desktop/Grade-9-Class-2_Math-Scores/
├── First Monthly Exam Scores.xlsx
├── Midterm Exam Scores.xlsx
├── Second Monthly Exam Scores.xlsx
└── Final Exam Scores.xlsx

Including the exam name or date in the filename (e.g., 2024-03-Monthly-Exam-Scores.xlsx) enables QoderWork CN to automatically analyze the data in chronological order.

Step 2: Select the working directory

In QoderWork CN, she creates a task, clicks Select Working Directory at the bottom of the dialog box, and selects the Grade-9-Class-2_Math-Scores folder.

Step 3: Analyze the data

She enters the following prompt directly into the dialog box:

Please read all the exam score sheets in this folder and perform the following analysis:
1. For each exam, calculate the class average, highest score, lowest score, and pass rate.
2. Track the performance trend for each student across all exams.
3. Identify the top 5 most improved students and the 5 students with the largest score drops.
4. Generate a class performance analysis report with visualizations.
5. Provide recommendations for students who need extra attention.

QoderWork CN reads all Excel files, analyzes the data, and saves the report back to the folder for Ms. Zhang to review.

Continuous use

After the next exam, Ms. Zhang only needs to:

  • Place the new score sheet into the same folder.

  • Open QoderWork CN (if the working directory has not changed, she does not need to re-select it).

  • Enter a simple prompt: I've added the new exam scores. Please update the analysis report.

This entire process takes less than five minutes. As more data accumulates, the analysis from QoderWork CN becomes even more valuable. For example, it might identify a student whose performance has been declining since the third exam, allowing for early intervention.

More scenarios

The "Organize Folder → Select Working Directory → Analyze with Natural Language" workflow applies to almost any job that involves repeatedly processing similar files:

Role

Folder organization

Sample prompt

Teacher

Store score sheets by class/semester

"Analyze all score sheets and identify students who need attention."

Sales

Store sales reports by month

"Compare sales trends over the last three months and find the fastest-growing products."

Finance

Store reimbursement forms by month

"Summarize all reimbursements for this quarter and generate a report by expense category."

Lawyer

Store contract files by case

"Review all contracts and list the high-risk clauses."

Operations

Store data exports by channel

"Merge data from all channels and generate an ROI analysis report."

Foreign Trade

Store customer information by order

"Read all orders and generate a customs declaration summary table."

Researcher

Store research papers by topic

"Summarize the key findings from all papers and generate a literature review."

Folder management tips

  • Consistent Naming: Include dates or serial numbers in filenames, like 2024-03-Monthly-Exam-Scores.xlsx or 01-First-Monthly-Exam.xlsx. QoderWork CN can automatically recognize the order.

  • One Folder, One Purpose: Avoid mixing unrelated files. For example, keep language scores and math scores in separate folders for more accurate analysis.

  • Consistent Formats: Use the same template for similar files whenever possible. For instance, if every exam's Excel file uses the same column headers (e.g., Name, Student ID, Score), QoderWork CN can align the data automatically.

  • Use Subfolders: When you have many files, you can create subfolders organized by date or category. QoderWork CN can read them recursively.

  • Accumulate Data Over Time: The more data in a folder, the more valuable the analysis. Make it a habit to save files to their corresponding folders to enable richer analysis later.

Start your first analysis

Step 1: Organize a folder

Choose a work scenario, such as monthly reports or exam scores, and gather all related files into a new folder.

Step 2: Select the working directory

Create a task in QoderWork CN, click "Select Working Directory" at the bottom of the dialog box, and choose the folder you just created.

Step 3: Write your prompt

Copy the prompt structure from the examples above and modify it to fit your needs.

Step 4: Iterate and refine

Your first attempt might not be perfect. Refine your prompt based on the results to gradually build a template that works for you.

Step 5: Package as a Skill (advanced)

If you use a workflow repeatedly, consider packaging it as a Skill to build a personal or team tool library.

These examples are based on real user feedback. Feel free to copy the prompts and adapt them for your own use.
