Hologres:Integrate Hologres long memory service with AI coding tools

Last Updated:Sep 01, 2026

Qoder, Claude Code, and Codex are widely used AI coding tools that provide code generation and conversational programming assistance. This topic describes how to use the one-click installer to integrate these three tools with the Hologres long memory service, which adds persistent, cross-session memory to each tool.

Prerequisites

  • At least one of the following AI coding tools is installed: Qoder CLI, Claude Code CLI (claude), or OpenAI Codex CLI (codex).

  • A long memory service is created in the Hologres console, and its endpoint and API key are obtained. For more information, see Create and use long memory service.

  • The environment in which the AI coding tool runs can reach the endpoint of the long memory service. We recommend that you use the private endpoint for same-VPC access. For cross-VPC or local access, configure an IP whitelist.

Step 1: Run the one-click installer

The one-click installer detects the AI coding tools that are installed on your machine. For each tool, it installs the corresponding Hologres long memory plugin, configures the MCP connection, and sets the required environment variables.

Run the following command to start the installation:

# Mac & Linux:
curl -fsSL https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py | python3 -

# Windows:
curl.exe -fsSL https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py | python -

The installer first reads any saved credentials, or interactively prompts you to enter the endpoint and API key. It then scans your local environment and lists the tools that you can configure:

==================================================
 Hologres OpenMemory Installer
==================================================

  ✓ Using credentials from /Users/xxx/.hologres-open-memory/config.json
     URL: http://<ENDPOINT>:80
     Key: om-xxxxxxxx

  Validating credentials...
  ✓ Connection verified (HTTP 200) at http://<ENDPOINT>:80

  Select agents to configure
  (pre-selected [x] = already installed, press Enter in TTY to accept)

    [1] [x] Qoder CLI          (detected: v1.2.3)
    [2] [ ] Claude Code        (detected)
    [3] [ ] Codex              (not detected)

After you select the tools and confirm your choice, the installer performs the following operations in order:

Operation

Description

Download the plugin package

Downloads the plugin for each selected tool, then extracts and installs it.

Configure the MCP connection

Writes the URL and API key of the long memory service to the MCP configuration file of each tool.

Set environment variables

Writes HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_URL and HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_API_KEY to your shell profile (such as ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc) on Mac and Linux, or sets them as user environment variables by using setx on Windows.

Save the credentials

Stores the endpoint and API key in ~/.hologres-open-memory/config.json.

Install the management CLI

Installs the openmemory command-line tool, which you use for subsequent management.

Sample output after the installation completes:

==================================================
 Summary
==================================================
  ✓ Qoder CLI: installed
  ✓ Claude Code: installed

  Management CLI: /Users/xxx/.local/bin/openmemory
  Run openmemory status to check installation.
  Run openmemory uninstall to remove.

(Optional) To run the installer in a CI/CD pipeline or another automated scenario, pass the credentials as environment variables and add the -y parameter to skip the interactive prompts. On Mac and Linux, run the following commands:

export HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_URL=http://<ENDPOINT>:80
export HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_API_KEY=om-xxxxxxxx

curl -fsSL https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py | python3 - install -y \
    --agents qodercli,claude-code,codex \
    --source-url https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py

On Windows, run the following commands in PowerShell:

$env:HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_URL = "http://<ENDPOINT>:80"
$env:HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_API_KEY = "om-xxxxxxxx"

curl.exe -fsSL https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py | python - install -y --agents qodercli,claude-code,codex --source-url https://hologres-open-memory.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/hologres-openmemory/install.py
Note

The --agents parameter supports the following values: qodercli (Qoder CLI), claude-code (Claude Code), and codex (Codex). Separate multiple values with commas. The --source-url parameter ensures that the management CLI is also installed correctly in non-interactive mode.

Step 2: Verify the integration

Check the installation status

openmemory status

Expected output:

==================================================
 Hologres OpenMemory Status
==================================================

  ✓ Qoder CLI v1.2.3 [detected]
     config: /Users/xxx/.qoder/plugins/cache/local/openmemory/1.2.3/.qoder-mcp.json

  ✓ Claude Code v0.1.1 [detected]
     config: /Users/xxx/.claude/settings.json

  ✓ Codex v0.1.1 [detected]
     config: /Users/xxx/.codex/plugins/cache/hologres-openmemory-plugins/openmemory/0.1.1/.codex-mcp.json

  CLI: /Users/xxx/.local/bin/openmemory (exists)

  ✓ Using credentials from /Users/xxx/.hologres-open-memory/config.json
     URL: http://<ENDPOINT>:80
     Key: om-xxxxxxxx
  Credentials: configured

  3/3 agent(s) installed

Verify in each AI coding tool

Qoder CLI: Start Qoder CLI and tell the agent a few personal facts in a conversation. Then, start a new session and ask about those facts to check whether memories are recalled automatically. You can also run /openmemory:health in a conversation to check the connection status of the long memory service.

Claude Code: Start Claude Code. The plugin loads automatically. Then, in a conversation, verify that memories persist across sessions.

Codex: Start Codex and run /openmemory:health to check the connection status of the long memory service. Then, verify memory recall in a conversation.

Configuration reference

The one-click installer completes all required configurations, so you rarely need to change them manually. The following sections describe where each configuration item is stored, for your reference.

Credential storage

The installer stores the endpoint and API key in ~/.hologres-open-memory/config.json:

{
  "hologres_open_memory_url": "http://<ENDPOINT>:80",
  "hologres_open_memory_api_key": "om-xxxxxxxx"
}

To change the credentials, run one of the following commands:

# Interactive mode
openmemory config

# Or specify the parameters directly
openmemory config --url http://<ENDPOINT>:80 --key om-xxxxxxxx

Configuration files

Tool

Configuration file path

Description

Qoder CLI

~/.qoder/plugins/cache/local/openmemory/<VERSION>/.qoder-mcp.json

MCP connection settings, including the URL (with /mcp appended automatically) and the Authorization request header.

Claude Code

~/.claude/settings.json

The env field stores the URL and API key environment variables. The pluginConfigs field stores the plugin options.

Codex

~/.codex/plugins/cache/hologres-openmemory-plugins/openmemory/<VERSION>/.codex-mcp.json

MCP connection settings, including the URL (with /mcp appended automatically).

Note

In the preceding table, ~ is the home directory of the current user. On Windows, it maps to %USERPROFILE% and the path separator is a backslash, such as %USERPROFILE%\.claude\settings.json.

Environment variables

On Mac and Linux, the installer writes the following environment variables to your shell profile (such as ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc):

# >>> hologres-open-memory >>>
export HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_URL="http://<ENDPOINT>:80"
export HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_API_KEY="om-xxxxxxxx"
# <<< hologres-open-memory <<<

On Windows, the installer uses setx to set the following user environment variables:

HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_URL=http://<ENDPOINT>:80
HOLOGRES_OPEN_MEMORY_API_KEY=om-xxxxxxxx
Note

The installer also adds the management CLI directory to your PATH: ~/.local/bin on Mac and Linux, and %LOCALAPPDATA%\openmemory on Windows. On Mac and Linux, run source ~/.zshrc (or the equivalent command for your shell) or open a new terminal. On Windows, open a new terminal. These actions apply the new environment variables and PATH settings, after which you can run the openmemory command directly.

FAQ

How do I check which AI coding tools are installed?

Run openmemory status. The command lists all supported tools and their installation status.

How do I change the configured endpoint or API key?

openmemory config --url http://<ENDPOINT>:80 --key om-xxxxxxxx

After you change the credentials, run the following command to update the configuration of each tool:

openmemory update

What do I do if the connection fails after installation?

Troubleshoot in the following order:

  1. Verify that the endpoint includes the http:// prefix and a port number, such as :80.

  2. Verify that the API key matches the value shown in the Hologres console. The key starts with om-.

  3. Verify that your local environment can reach the endpoint of the long memory service. Run curl http://<ENDPOINT>:80/mcp to test connectivity.

  4. If you use a public endpoint, verify that the IP whitelist is configured.

How do I uninstall the plugin for a specific tool?

openmemory uninstall

Select the tools to uninstall in the interactive prompt. You can also specify a tool directly:

openmemory uninstall --agents qodercli

How do I enter the credentials on the first installation, when no credentials are saved yet?

The installer prompts you to enter the service URL and API key. For information about how to obtain them, see Obtain connection information.

  Please enter your OpenMemory service credentials.

  Service URL: http://<ENDPOINT>:80
  API Key:  (input is hidden)

The installer then validates connectivity. If the validation succeeds, the installation continues.
