Global Accelerator:Domain name management

Last Updated:Apr 01, 2026

When you accelerate services deployed in the Chinese mainland, the accelerated domain name must comply with China's ICP filing requirements. GA's domain name management feature handles the Alibaba Cloud service provider requirement automatically: once you associate an accelerated domain name with a GA instance, no further ICP filing is required for any subdomains under that domain and instance combination.

Before using this feature, clarify the following key concepts:

ConceptWhat it means
ICP filing-free coverageApplies only to subdomains under the associated primary domain name and GA instance. Other domains are not covered.
Primary domain name vs. subdomainEnter the primary domain name (for example, example.com). All subdomains under it (for example, app.example.com) are automatically covered.
ICP number requirementThe primary domain name must already have an ICP number. This feature does not exempt you from obtaining an ICP number.
ICP filing service providerGA handles the Alibaba Cloud service provider requirement for you. You do not need to manually update your ICP filing.

Background information

According to Administrative Measures on Internet Information Services and Registration Administration Measures for Non-Commercial Internet Information Services, services that are deployed in the Chinese mainland or services that are resolved to servers in the Chinese mainland must have an ICP number.

  • If you do not obtain an ICP number for a website domain name from Alibaba Cloud and you resolve the domain name to Alibaba Cloud servers in the Chinese mainland, Alibaba Cloud suspends the website and requires you to obtain an ICP number for the domain name.

  • If you obtained an ICP number for a website domain name from another service provider and you want to resolve the domain name to Alibaba Cloud servers in the Chinese mainland, you must add Alibaba Cloud to your ICP filing information as a service provider. If the preceding requirement is not met, Alibaba Cloud suspends your website and requires you to add Alibaba Cloud to your ICP filing information as a service provider.

If you use GA and the service that you want to accelerate is deployed in the Chinese mainland, you can use the domain name management feature of GA. You do not need to check whether the ICP filing information of the accelerated domain name contains Alibaba Cloud as a service provider. After you associate the accelerated domain name with a GA instance, you do not need to complete further ICP filing for the domain name or its subdomains on Alibaba Cloud.

Limitations

  • If the accelerated domain name is deployed in the Chinese mainland, or the acceleration region is in the Chinese mainland, an ICP number is mandatory for the domain name. Without one, Alibaba Cloud suspends the website, the domain name management feature does not take effect, and ICP filing is required for the domain name and its subdomains.

  • The same accelerated domain name cannot be associated with the same GA instance more than once.

  • To remove an accelerated domain name from the ICP filing center of Alibaba Cloud, perform the following operations:

    • Disassociate the domain name from all associated GA instances.

    • Delete the domain name on the Domain Name Management page.

    • Release all associated GA instances when the GA instances expire.

Add a domain name

Associate an accelerated domain name with a GA instance.

Steps

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. Open the Domain Name Management dialog box using either method:

    • From the Instances page: Click Domain Name Management.

    • From the Domain Name Management page: In the left-side navigation pane, choose Standard Instance > Domain Name Management, then click Domain Name Management.

  3. In the Domain Name Management dialog box, set the following parameters and click OK.

    ParameterDescription
Accelerated Domain NameEnter a primary domain name. Example: example.com.
Associated InstanceSelect the GA instance to associate with the domain name.
  4. Review the confirmation message to verify whether the domain name was added and associated with the GA instance, and whether the domain name has an ICP number. Then click OK.

    • If the domain name has an ICP number, no further ICP filing is needed for subdomains associated with the GA instance.

    • If the domain name does not have an ICP number, obtain one as soon as possible to avoid regulatory violations.

View and update the ICP filing status of a domain name

GA monitors the ICP filing status of your accelerated domain names. When the status becomes abnormal, the system sends a notification, reducing the risk of domain name restriction. To check or refresh the status at any time, follow these steps.

The ICP filing status can be one of the following:

StatusMeaningAction required
ICP FiledThe domain name has an ICP number.None.
ICP Not FiledThe domain name has no ICP number and may violate regulations. The domain name will be restricted if an ICP number is not obtained in the specified period.Obtain an ICP number immediately.
IllegalThe domain name is on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) blacklist.Obtain an ICP number immediately.
UnknownAn unknown error was returned from the ICP filing center.

Steps:

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Standard Instance > Domain Name Management.

  3. On the Domain Name Management page, find the domain name and check the ICP Filing Status column.

Click Filter next to ICP Filing Status to filter domain names by status.

  4. In the Actions column, click Update ICP Filing Status to retrieve the latest ICP filing status.

Manage associated instances

If your service changes and you need to associate the domain name with additional GA instances or remove existing ones, follow these steps.

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Standard Instance > Domain Name Management.

  3. On the Domain Name Management page, find the domain name and click Associated Instance in the Actions column.

  4. In the Associate Instance panel, add or remove instances as needed.

    Add a GA instance:

    1. Click Add Instance.

    2. In the Add Instance panel, select the GA instance and click OK.

    Remove a GA instance:

    Warning

If you remove a GA instance, the GA instance is disassociated from the domain name. This does not affect the ICP filing status of the domain name. However, the ICP filing-free service provided by Alibaba Cloud for the domain name may become invalid.

    1. In the Actions column of the GA instance to remove, click Remove.

To remove multiple instances at once, select them and click Batch Remove.

    2. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.

Delete a domain name

Warning

After the domain name is deleted, GA instances are disassociated from the domain name. This does not affect the ICP filing status of the domain name. However, the ICP filing-free service provided by Alibaba Cloud for the domain name may become invalid.

Steps:

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Standard Instance > Domain Name Management.

  3. On the Domain Name Management page, find the domain name and click Delete in the Actions column.
