Elasticsearch:Rule-Based Intelligent O&M

Last Updated:Jul 03, 2026

The Intelligent Maintenance feature of Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch provides cluster health diagnostics. After you enable Intelligent Maintenance, the system automatically diagnoses your cluster every morning and generates a diagnostic report. You can also manually trigger a diagnostic up to five times per day. The Cluster Overview and Previous Reports pages help you continuously monitor your cluster health.

Note

To perform cluster operations diagnostics through natural language conversations, use Elasticsearch AI Assistant (ES Agent). ES Agent provides an AI-driven interactive operations experience with capabilities such as slow query analysis, exception diagnosis, root cause localization, and capacity planning. For more information, see ES Agent intelligent operations assistant user guide.

Limits

  • The instance is in one of the following regions: China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Qingdao), China (Beijing), China (Shenzhen), China East 1 Finance, or China East 2 Finance.

  • Intelligent Maintenance is not available for Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch instances running version 7.16 or 8.5. For these versions, use the GET _cat/health?v command to check your cluster health.

Access the Intelligent Maintenance page

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console.

  2. In the left navigation menu, choose Elasticsearch Clusters.

  3. Navigate to the target cluster.

    1. In the top navigation bar, select the resource group to which the cluster belongs and the region where the cluster resides.

    2. On the Elasticsearch Clusters page, find the cluster and click its ID.

Enable Intelligent Maintenance

When you enable the Intelligent Maintenance service for an Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch instance for the first time, you must grant the service permission to access the basic information and logs of your cluster. The service does not access the data in your cluster.

Prerequisites: You have created an Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch instance. For more information, see Create an Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch instance.

Procedure

  1. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Intelligent Maintenance > Cluster Overview.

  2. Click Authorization Disclaimer.

  3. In the Authorization Disclaimer dialog box, read the terms and conditions and click I Agree.

    Authorization

  4. Click Authorize and Enable.

View cluster overview

Use the Cluster Overview page to monitor the health status of your Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch cluster over the last seven days.

Prerequisites: Intelligent Maintenance is enabled, and at least one cluster health diagnostic has been completed.

Procedure

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Intelligent Maintenance > Cluster Overview.

  2. On the Cluster Overview page, review the health status for the last seven days.

Intelligent Maintenance uses three colors to indicate cluster health:

    Status

    Meaning

    Action required

    Green

    The cluster is healthy.

    None

    Yellow

A moderate issue or threat that may affect cluster usage exists and requires prompt processing.

Address the issue to prevent further degradation.

    Red

A severe issue or threat that may affect cluster usage exists and requires immediate processing. If not addressed, data loss or cluster crash may occur.

    Act immediately.

Diagnose cluster health

After you enable Intelligent Maintenance, the system automatically performs a diagnostic on your Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch cluster every morning. After the diagnostic is complete, a diagnostic report is generated. In addition to the daily diagnostic, you can use the Health Diagnosis feature to manually diagnose your cluster. You can use this feature up to five times a day. Each diagnostic requires about 3 minutes.

Prerequisites: Intelligent Maintenance is enabled.

Procedure

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Intelligent Maintenance > Cluster Diagnostics.

  2. Select Indexes and Diagnostic Items.

By default, all Indexes and Diagnostic Items are selected. You can also customize the selection. However, if you customize the selection, you can select up to 10 indexes.

  3. Click Diagnose Now.

After the diagnosis is complete, the system displays the latest Diagnostic Report.

  4. View the Diagnostic Report to check the latest health status of your cluster. The report includes diagnosis item descriptions, diagnosis results, and recommendations.

View historical diagnostic reports

After running a cluster health diagnostic, you can view historical diagnostic reports for your instance on the Previous Reports page. The page displays up to 20 of the most recent reports.

Prerequisites: Intelligent Maintenance is enabled, and at least one cluster health diagnostic has been completed.

Procedure

  1. In the navigation pane on the left, under Intelligent Maintenance, click Historical Reports.

  2. In the Historical Reports section, click a report's name to view it.
