ENS:Pay-as-you-go (user-level, deprecated)

Last Updated:Dec 09, 2025

Pay-as-you-go is a billing method that allows you to use resources before you pay for them. You can purchase and release resources based on your business requirements. You do not need to purchase a large number of resources in advance. This topic describes the billing rules for pay-as-you-go Edge Node Service (ENS) instances.

Usage notes

  • For information about the billing rules for bare metal and heterogeneous computing instances, submit a ticket.

  • When you create an instance, you occupy computing resources in the cloud, and you are billed for the resources even if the resources are idle. This is particularly true for pay-as-you-go instances.

  • Pay-as-you-go instances support two metering methods: pay-by-daily-peak and pay-by-monthly-peak. If you want to switch between the metering methods, contact your account manager.

Pricing of pay-as-you-go instances

Billable items of pay-as-you-go instances consist of edge vCPUs and edge memory. The pricing of instances varies based on regions. The following table describes the unit prices.

Note
  • For information about the distribution of edge nodes in each billable region, see Node distribution.

  • Alibaba Cloud charges you for all pay-as-you-go resources in your Alibaba Cloud account, including public bandwidth, instances, and cloud disks, based on a unified billing cycle and metering method. If you use the pay-by-monthly-95th-percentile-bandwidth metering method for public bandwidth the first time you create an instance, you are charged for bandwidth usage of the existing and new public network interface controllers (NICs) in your account based on the metering method. At the same time, the monthly billing cycle applies to all existing and new pay-as-you-go instances and cloud disks in the account.

Pay-by-daily-peak

The following rules apply to pay-by-daily-peak.

Item

Description

Billing rule

  • Edge vCPUs: You are billed based on the daily peak number of vCPUs. The total number of vCPUs is calculated every 5 minutes. The maximum value among the 288 results in a day is used for billing.

  • Edge memory: You are billed based on the daily peak memory. The total memory usage is calculated every 5 minutes. The maximum value among the 288 results in a day is used for billing.

Billing method

Pay-as-you-go

Billing cycle

You are charged on a daily basis. The bills of a day are generated and the amount due is deducted after 00:00 on the following day. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

Calculation method

Fees for an instance of a day = Peak number of vCPUs of the day × Daily unit price of vCPUs + Peak memory of the day × Daily unit price of memory.

Pay-by-monthly-peak

The following rules apply to pay-by-monthly-peak.

Item

Description

Billing rule

  • Edge vCPUs: You are billed based on the monthly peak number of vCPUs. ENS calculates the sum of edge vCPUs every 5 minutes, and uses the maximum value among the 288 results in a day as the daily peak value of vCPUs. At the end of a month, the maximum value among the daily peak values is used for billing.

  • Edge memory: You are billed based on the monthly peak memory. ENS calculates the total memory usage every 5 minutes, and uses the maximum value among the 288 results in a day as the daily peak value of memory usage. At the end of a month, the maximum value among the daily peak values is used for billing.

Billing method

Pay-as-you-go

Billing cycle

You are charged on a monthly basis. A bill is generated on the first day of the next calendar month after the end of a billing cycle. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

Calculation method

Fees for an instance of a month = Peak number of vCPUs of the month × Monthly unit price of vCPUs + Peak memory of the month × Monthly unit price of memory × Effective factor.

Note
  • Effective factor = Effective days/Total number of days in the current month. For example, the total number of days in June 2024 is 30. If a bill for June 2024 covers 26 valid days, the effective factor is 26/30 = 0.86666667.

  • Effective days: the number of days from the day when an instance is created to the day when the instance is released or to the end of the month if the instance is not released in the month.

    • Example 1: If an instance is created on June 5, 2024 and is released on June 25, 2024, the number of effective days in June 2024 is 21.

    • Example 2: If an instance is created on June 5, 2024 and is used till the end of the month, the number of effective days in June 2024 is 26.
