    E-MapReduce:Use cluster templates

    EMR cluster templates save cluster configurations such as software versions and instance types, letting you create identically configured clusters without repetitive setup. Templates help you rapidly deploy test or production environments while ensuring configuration consistency.

    Features

    • Configuration persistence: Saves all cluster configurations except passwords.

    • Quick deployment: Create a cluster from a template in just three clicks.

    • Resource grouping: Use resource groups to manage and isolate templates across different projects.

    Limitations

    • Configuration limits:

      • Password storage is not supported. You must use a key pair.

      • Instance resources are not locked. You can adjust them when creating a cluster from a template.

    • Quantity limit: You can create a maximum of 30 cluster templates per region.

    Procedure

    Create a cluster template

    1. Go to the Manage Cluster Templates page.

      1. Log on to the E-MapReduce console.

      2. In the top navigation bar, select a region and resource group as needed.

      3. On the EMR on ECS page, click Manage Cluster Templates in the upper-right corner.

    2. In the Manage Cluster Templates panel, click Create Template.

    3. On the Cluster Template page, in the Confirm Configuration step, enter a Cluster Template Name, select a Cluster Template Resource Group, and then click Create Cluster Template.

      Note

      • The parameters are the same as those for creating a cluster. Configure the parameters as prompted. For more information, see Create a cluster.

      • Cluster Template Resource Group: Select an existing resource group or click Create Resource Group. to create a new one to organize your templates.

      The Manage Cluster Templates panel lists the cluster templates in the current region and resource group.

      Automatically generated by the system.

      Template Name

      The name you specified for the template.

      Created At

      When the template was created.

      Last Modification Time

      When the template was last modified.

      Actions

      • Create Cluster: Create a cluster based on the template's configuration.

      • Edit: Modify the template configuration.

      • Copy: Duplicate the template.

      • Delete: Delete the cluster template.

    Create a cluster from a template

    1. In the Manage Cluster Templates panel, click Create Cluster in the Actions column for the desired cluster template.

    2. In the Create Cluster dialog box, click OK.

      Note

      If you create a subscription cluster, you must find the new cluster on the EMR on ECS page and complete the payment before cluster creation begins.

    3. On the EMR on ECS page, you can view the newly created EMR cluster. The cluster name defaults to the format $Template Name$+Timestamp.

    4. If a template uses a discontinued EMR version, edit the template to select an available version, and then repeat these steps.

    FAQ

    • Does the new console support creating cluster templates for earlier Hadoop versions?

      No. The new console can only create cluster templates for versions it supports.

    • Can I configure a custom password?

      No. For security reasons, templates require key pair authentication.

    • Can I change the instance type in a template?

      Yes. You can override the instance type in the template when you create a cluster.
