Before a subscription cluster is automatically released, you can manually renew the cluster or enable auto-renewal for the cluster. After auto-renewal is enabled, the system renews your resources before the resources expire. This way, you do not need to manually renew resources, and your resources and data are not deleted due to resource expirations. This topic describes how to manually renew an E-MapReduce (EMR) cluster and enable and disable auto-renewal for an EMR cluster.

Background information

The renewal feature is applicable only to subscription clusters. Pay-as-you-go clusters do not need to be renewed. However, you must make sure that your account balance is sufficient to cover the fees.

The renewal items of an EMR cluster include the EMR service and ECS instances. EMR supports manual renewal and auto-renewal.

Prerequisites

The subscription cluster that you want to renew is in a normal state.

Usage notes

  • If your cluster expires on the next day, you can only manually renew the cluster. Auto-renewal is not supported.
  • You can use coupons for auto-renewal.
  • After you enable auto-renewal, you must keep your account balance sufficient for auto-renewals.

Manually renew a cluster

  1. Go to the Cluster Management page.
    1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud EMR console.
    2. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which you want to create a cluster and select a resource group based on your business requirements.
    3. Click the Cluster Management tab.
  2. On the Cluster Management page, find the cluster that you want to renew and click Renewal in the Actions column.
  3. In the Renewal dialog box, configure renewal policies for the ECS instances and the EMR service.
    Renewal
    • If you want to configure the same renewal policy for all the node groups and the EMR service that corresponds to each node group, select the Select All check box in the upper-left corner and select a renewal period from the drop-down list.
    • If you want to configure different renewal policies for the node groups and the EMR service that corresponds to each node group, separately configure the parameters in each table. The following table describes the parameters.
      Parameter Description
ECS Expiration Date The expiration time of the node group.
EMR Expiration Date The expiration time of the EMR service that corresponds to the node group.
Count The number of ECS instances in the node group.
ECS List The IDs of the ECS instances in the node group.
ECS Subscription Duration Select a renewal period for the ECS instances in the node group from the drop-down list.
EMR Subscription Duration Select a renewal period for the EMR service that corresponds to the node group from the drop-down list.
Renewal Cost The total renewal price for the EMR service and the ECS instances. The price is calculated in real time.
  4. Read the terms of service, select E-MapReduce Service Terms, and then click OK.
The payment page appears. This page displays the total amount that you need to pay and the details of each order.
Notice If an unpaid order exists in the cluster list, you are not allowed to scale out or renew a cluster.
  5. Complete the payment.
After you complete the payment, the expiration time of the cluster on the Cluster Management page is updated based on the renewal period. In the ECS console, the expiration time of the ECS instances is updated after a delay of approximately 3 to 5 minutes.

Enable auto-renewal for a cluster

  1. On the Cluster Management page, find the cluster for which you want to enable auto-renewal and click Details in the Actions column. In the upper-right corner of the Cluster Overview page, choose Renewal > Auto Renewal.
  2. In the Auto Renewal dialog box, configure auto-renewal policies for the ECS instances and the EMR service.
    Auto Renewal
    • If you want to configure the same auto-renewal policy for all the ECS instances and the EMR service that corresponds to each ECS instance, select the Select All check box in the upper-left corner and select a renewal period from the Subscription Duration drop-down list.
    • If you want to configure different auto-renewal policies for the ECS instances and the EMR service that corresponds to each ECS instance, separately configure the parameters in each row. The following table describes the parameters.
    Parameter Description
ECS ID The ID of the ECS instance.
ECS Expiration Date The expiration time of the ECS instance.
E-MapReduce Expiration Date The expiration time of the EMR service that corresponds to the ECS instance.
ECS Auto Renewal Status Specifies whether auto-renewal is enabled for the ECS instance. Valid values: Activated and Not Activated.
E-MapReduce Auto Renewal Status Specifies whether auto-renewal is enabled for the EMR service that corresponds to the ECS instance. Valid values: Activated and Not Activated.
ECS Renew Select the Auto Renewal check box and select a renewal period from the drop-down list.

For example, if you select the Auto Renewal check box and select 1 Month from the drop-down list, the ECS instance is automatically renewed for one month each time.

E-MapReduce Renew Select the Auto Renewal check box and select a renewal period from the drop-down list.

For example, if you select the Auto Renewal check box and select 1 Month from the drop-down list, the EMR service is automatically renewed for one month each time.

  3. Click OK.
After auto-renewal is enabled, the resources are automatically renewed before they expire, and no manual operation is required. You need to only make sure that your account balance is sufficient.

Disable auto-renewal for a cluster

If you enable auto-renewal for your cluster, the system deducts fees from your account balance nine days before the cluster expires. If you no longer require auto-renewal for the cluster after the current billing cycle, you can disable auto-renewal for the cluster before the system deducts the fees for the next billing cycle.

  1. On the Cluster Management page, find the cluster for which you want to disable auto-renewal and click Details in the Actions column. In the upper-right corner of the Cluster Overview page, choose Renewal > Auto Renewal.
  2. In the Auto Renewal dialog box, disable auto-renewal for the ECS instances and the EMR service.
    Do Not Renew
    • If you want to disable auto-renewal for all the ECS instances and the EMR service that corresponds to each ECS instance, select the Select All check box in the upper-left corner and select Do Not Renew from the Subscription Duration drop-down list.
    • If you want to disable auto-renewal for a specific ECS instance or the EMR service that corresponds to a specific ECS instance, find the ECS instance, and select Auto Renewal and Do Not Renew in the ECS Renew or E-MapReduce Renew column.
  3. Click OK.
