When you use an ESSD AutoPL disk, you can enable or disable the performance provision and performance burst features for the disk based on your business requirements to reduce costs. After the performance provision feature is enabled for the disk, you can modify the provisioned IOPS to improve disk performance without changing the disk size.

Background information

When you create an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance, you can specify an ESSD AutoPL disk as the system disk or a data disk. You can also separately create an ESSD AutoPL disk. Before you modify the performance configurations of an ESSD AutoPL disk, take note of the following items:
  • You can enable the performance provision and performance burst features for the disk as needed. If the performance provision and performance burst features are enabled for the disk, you can disable them or modify the provisioned IOPS as needed.
  • After the provisioned IOPS of the disk is modified, the provisioned throughput and total throughput of the disk change simultaneously.

For information about how to calculate the IOPS and throughput of an ESSD AutoPL disk, see Disk specifications.

  • If you enable the performance provision and performance burst features for the disk or modify the provisioned IOPS of the disk, bills are generated based on the new disk configurations. We recommend that you modify the performance configurations of the disk based on your business requirements.

For information about the pricing of ESSD AutoPL disks, visit the Pricing tab of the Elastic Compute Service product page.

  • The new performance configurations of the disk take effect immediately after the configurations are modified.
  • The configurations of an ESSD AutoPL disk can be modified up to two times within 24 hours.

Modify the provisioned performance of an ESSD AutoPL disk

When you change the category of a disk to ESSD AutoPL, you can perform the following operations to enable or disable performance provision for the ESSD AutoPL disk. After you enable performance provision, you can modify the provisioned IOPS of the disk as needed.

  1. Log on to the ECS console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage & Snapshots > Disks.
  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
  4. Find the disk whose category you want to change and choose More > Change Category in the Actions column.
  5. In the Change Disk Category dialog box, select AutoPL from the Category After Change drop-down list. Enable or disable performance provision as needed.
The following table describes specific scenarios.

      • Modify the provisioned IOPS as needed.
      • Clear Enable for Performance Provision to disable performance provision for the ESSD AutoPL disk.

      1. Select Enable for Performance Provision to enable performance provision for the ESSD AutoPL disk.
      2. Specify an IOPS value as needed.

  6. Confirm the configuration fees and click OK.

Enable or disable performance burst for an ESSD AutoPL disk

By default, performance burst is enabled when you create an ESSD AutoPL disk. You can disable performance burst as needed. After an ESSD AutoPL disk is created, you can perform the following operations to enable or disable performance burst for the ESSD AutoPL disk when you modify its attributes.
Note ESSD AutoPL disks for which the multi-attach feature is enabled do not support the performance burst feature. For information about the multi-attach feature, see NVMe disks.
  1. Log on to the ECS console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage & Snapshots > Disks.
  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
  4. Find the ESSD AutoPL disk that you want to manage and choose More > Modify Disk Property in the Actions column.
  5. In the Modify Disk Property dialog box, select or clear Start for Performance Burst as needed.
    Modify Disk Property
  6. Click OK.
