Edge Security Acceleration:Set up rules

Last Updated:Mar 21, 2025

Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) lets you create a variety of rules to tailor your domain configurations.

Rule types

ESA provides the following types of rules:

HTTPS rules

You can configure SSL/TLS rules to set encryption policies for requests with different hostnames. By enforcing HTTPS redirection, enabling random encryption, and configuring HSTS features, you ensure that the browser accesses HTTP links through encrypted TLS channels and enforces the use of HTTPS connections, thereby enhancing security.

Transform rules

Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) checks parameters contained in user requests based on the rules you created to rewrite URLs and modify request or response headers for matched user requests.

Redirect rules

If the storage path of resources on your origin server changes, the storage path of resources on Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) points of presence (POPs) also changes. If the requested URL path does not change in this case, you can configure redirect rules on the ESA POPs to rewrite the request URL and redirect the request to the destination URL. This helps reduce requests to the origin and improve access performance of clients.

Cache rules

Cache rules allow you to identify specific parameters in user requests. This way, you can specify which resources to cache and which not and specify the cache TTLs and locations. You can also configure cache policies for specific resources.

Network optimization rules

Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) provides features such as network and origin pull optimization, smart routing, WebSocket and gRPC connections, and maximum upload size settings to optimize cross-region network performance and user experience.

Content optimization rules

Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) allows you to configure fine-grained rules. You can create content optimization rules that apply only to matched incoming requests. This enables precise, tailored configurations for your website and thereby improves your website performance and access experience.

Origin rules

You can configure origin rules to specify different origin hosts, ports, protocols, Server Name Indications (SNI) settings, Domain Name System (DNS) records, and use range header for requests with different characteristics.
