ECS Insight is the implementation guideline service of Alibaba Cloud CloudOps for Elastic Compute Service (ECS). This topic describes the concepts related to ECS Insight.
Introduction
ECS Insight is an evaluation service based on cumulative best practices from thousands of enterprise customers of Alibaba Cloud. Based on Alibaba Cloud CloudOps, ECS Insight evaluates the ECS resources that belong to the current Alibaba Cloud account in terms of basic capabilities, cost management, automation, reliability, elasticity, and security compliance. ECS Insight also identifies risks in ECS resource usage and provides optimization suggestions.
ECS Insight is in preview. Before you can use ECS Insight, you must submit an application to use the service.
ECS Insight is continuously iterated to adjust the evaluation items, evaluation criteria, and points of each evaluation item. We recommend that you check for failed items and take measures based on the optimization suggestions.
ECS Insight provides several evaluation items in each of the six dimensions to evaluate ECS resource usage. The impacts on your business and points may vary based on the evaluation item.
The total score of all evaluation items that correspond to each dimension is 100 points. If a particular evaluation item in a dimension is added or removed, ECS Insight synchronously adjusts the points of other evaluation items in the same dimension, which ensures that the total score of all evaluation items in the dimension is 100 points.
If the ECS resource usage fails to satisfy the criteria of an evaluation item, the points that correspond to the evaluation item are deducted, which indicates that risks exist in ECS and must be handled at the earliest opportunity based on your business requirements. For each evaluation item that does not get 100 points, ECS Insight provides optimization suggestions based on the best practices of CloudOps, helping you quickly improve the development and O&M automation capabilities in ECS and stably run your business in the cloud.

ECS Insight automatically calculates the score and updates the evaluation results based on the resource usage in the current Alibaba Cloud account the next day (T + 1 day). You cannot manually update evaluation results. If the ECS resources that belong to your account change, such as when ECS instances are created or released, you can view the updated evaluation report the next day (T + 1 day). The updated evaluation report contains the updated points of evaluation items due to changing metrics.
Billing
ECS Insight is provided free of charge. However, you are charged for the ECS instances and associated resources that belong to your account. The overdue payments for the ECS instances and associated resources affect the evaluation results of ECS Insight. Make sure that your account balance is sufficient.
