Elastic High Performance Computing:Use VNC to manage a visualization service

Last Updated:Apr 01, 2026

Elastic High Performance Computing (E-HPC) includes a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) service that lets you access the graphical desktop of your cluster directly from a browser using the web client of the E-HPC console. This document covers how to connect to and stop the visualization service.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that the VNC service is installed on your cluster:

  • New cluster: Enable the VNC feature in the Software Configurations step during cluster creation. The service is installed automatically.

  • Existing cluster: Go to the Software Manager panel on the Cluster page. For details, see Install software.

Connect to the visualization service

  1. Log on to the E-HPC console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cluster.

  4. On the Cluster page, select a cluster and choose More > VNC.

  5. (Optional, first time only) Change the connection password. If this is the first time that you use a visualization service, you must change the connection password.

    1. In the VNC Viewer, click Modify Password.

    2. In the Modify Password dialog box, enter the user password and the connection password.

    3. Click OK.

  7. Connect to the visualization service.

    1. In the cloud desktop of E-HPC, click Connect.

    2. (First time only) Enable the certificate. E-HPC generates a self-signed certificate to ensure the integrity and security of visualization data.

      1. In the Input Password field, click LINK to download the certificate.

      2. In the browser that appears, allow browser access:

        • Chrome: Choose Advanced > Proceed to.

        • Firefox: Choose Advanced > Add Exception....

    3. In the Input Password field, enter the password and click OK.

Stop the visualization service

  1. Log on to the E-HPC console.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cluster.

  4. On the Cluster page, select a cluster and choose More > VNC.

  5. In the VNC Viewer, click Stop Service.
