Data Transmission Service:Apply for cross-border data synchronization permission

Last Updated:Jul 17, 2026

Data Transmission Service (DTS) supports data synchronization only within a single country or region by default. To create a cross-border synchronization task, for example from the Chinese mainland to a region outside the Chinese mainland, you must apply for the cross-border data synchronization permission first.

Note

Without this permission, you cannot select a cross-border destination region after you select a source region on the DTS buy page.

Limitations

  • Cross-border data synchronization must comply with the data security policies of the source and destination regions.

  • You must read and comply with the Alibaba Cloud Legal & Privacy Policy before you perform cross-border data synchronization.

  • You must use your Alibaba Cloud account (root account) to apply for the permission.

  • DTS does not support cross-border bidirectional data synchronization.

  • If you configure a cross-region or cross-border data synchronization or data migration task, ensure that the task bandwidth does not exceed 100 Mbit/s. A cross-region or cross-border task is one that you directly configure on the DTS console, such as a task that replicates data from an ApsaraDB RDS instance in the Singapore region to one in the China (Hangzhou) region. For a definition of cross-region and cross-border, see Cross-border and cross-region synchronization. If your bandwidth requirement exceeds 100 Mbit/s, use Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) to configure the cross-region network bandwidth before you configure the DTS task.

  • If the data synchronization or data migration task that you configure involves cross-border and cross-region operations, ensure that the task bandwidth does not exceed 100 Mbit/s. If your bandwidth requirement exceeds 100 Mbit/s, use CEN to configure the cross-region network bandwidth and then configure the DTS task.

    Note

A cross-region or cross-border task is a task that you configure on the DTS console. For example, a task that synchronizes data from an ApsaraDB RDS instance in the Singapore region to an ApsaraDB RDS instance in the China (Hangzhou) region.

Procedure

  1. Use your Alibaba Cloud account (root account) to open the application page for the cross-border data synchronization permission.

    • Method 1: Apply directly for the permission (Recommended)

Apply for the permission on the Compliance Warranty on the Use of DTS Cross-Border Synchronization Services page.

    • Method 2: Apply for the permission from the task page

After you obtain the cross-border data synchronization permission, you can configure a cross-border data synchronization task.

If you applied for the permission from the task page, proceed with the task configuration:

  • Purchase first, then configure

Purchase a new DTS instance and configure the cross-border data synchronization task.

  • Configure first, then purchase

    • On the Data Synchronization page, find your configured task and click Start Task. Then, complete the purchase as prompted.

    • Create and purchase a new cross-border data synchronization task.

FAQ

  • How can I determine whether a task involves cross-border data synchronization?

Check the regions of the source and destination databases. For more information, see Cross-border and cross-region synchronization.

  • Do I need to apply for permission for cross-region data synchronization?

    No.
