If the business scenario of your enterprise is complex, and the volume of business data is large, you can create business categories to differentiate data. This way, you can manage business data in an efficient manner. This topic describes how to create a business category and how to associate data domains with business categories.

Create a business category

  1. Go to the Dimensional Modeling page.
  2. Go to the Business Category page.
    1. In the top navigation bar of the Dimensional Modeling page, click Data Warehouse Planning.
    2. In the left-side navigation pane of the page that appears, click Business Category.
  3. In the Business Category pane of the Business Category page, click the Plus sign icon and select Create Top-level Category. In the Create Top-level Category dialog box, configure the parameters.
    Parameter Description
    Abbreviation The abbreviation of the name for the business category.

    The abbreviation cannot exceed 128 characters in length and can contain lowercase letters, digits, and underscores (_). The abbreviation must start with a lowercase letter.

    Display Name The display name of the business category.

    The display name cannot exceed 128 characters in length and can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), ampersands (&), and parentheses (). The display name must start with a letter or digit.

    Description The description of the business category. The description helps you understand the business category.
  4. Click OK.
    If you want to modify or delete a business category, find the business category in the Business Category pane, right-click the display name of the business category, and then select Edit or Delete.

Associate data domains with a business category

In the Associate Data Domains section of the details page of a business category, you can associate data domains with the business category. This way, data modeling for this business category can use the associated data domains. Associate Data Domains

What to do next

After business categories are created, you can specify a business category when you create a dimension table or fact table. You can view the associations between tables and business categories on the Business Category tab in the Dimensional Modeling pane of the Dimensional Modeling page.
