Configuration Management in Data Map lets workspace owners and administrators control how tables and metadata appear in the data catalog, organize tables into browsable categories, and set access policies for Resource Access Management (RAM) users.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have one of the following roles:
-
An Alibaba Cloud account (has the required permissions by default)
-
A RAM user with the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess permission. To grant this permission, see Overview of DataWorks permissions.
-
The Data Catalog Administrator role, assigned in
Only an Alibaba Cloud account, a RAM user with the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy, or a tenant administrator can change the settings on the Other Settings page.
Access the Configuration Management page

Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Governance > Data Map, then click Go to Data Map.
-
In the left-side menu bar, click Configuration Management and select a configuration item.
Configure category navigation
Category navigation lets you organize tables into a hierarchy of categories. After configuration, all workspace members in the current region can filter tables by category during searches and save specific tables to favorites for quick access.
To set up category navigation:
-
In the left-side navigation pane, click Configuration Management > Manage Categories.
-
Create a category by clicking the
icon next to an existing category.Categories support up to four levels of nesting. To edit or delete a category, click the

icon next to it.
-
Add tables to a category by clicking Quick Add and following the on-screen instructions. Added tables appear in the right-side panel. To remove a table, select it in the panel and remove it.
Quick Add is available only in leaf directories. After adding a table to a leaf directory, members can filter by that directory or any of its parent directories.
Manage workspace metadata visibility
Use Manage Workspaces to control how project-level and table-level metadata appears in Data Map. This feature supports the MaxCompute engine only. For other engines, configure metadata visibility through metadata acquisition settings. For more information, see Metadata acquisition.
Common use cases include:
-
Hiding tables from non-members to prevent unauthorized data discovery
-
Surfacing a project's metadata in Data Map so all regional members can search it
To configure workspace metadata visibility:
-
In the left-side navigation pane, click Configuration Management > Manage Workspaces.
-
In the Workspace (I am the owner or administrator) section, select a workspace.
-
In the Workspace Status section, toggle the access control switches as needed.
Switch What it controls Manage Metadata Whether this project's metadata appears in Data Map Enable Data Preview Whether tenant members can preview sample data from this project's tables, even without data access permissions Allow Only Project Members to View Project Tables Whether this project's tables are hidden from non-members by default
Configure other settings
On the Other Settings page, configure workspace join requirements for RAM users:
-
Whether RAM users must join a workspace before they can access Data Map
-
