Dataphin:Create and manage source systems

Configure source systems for metadata collected from specific data sources to classify metadata, filter asset objects, and visualize data lineage.

Permission description

Super administrators, system administrators, and custom global roles with Source System-Management permissions can create and manage source systems.

Usage instructions

A single tenant supports up to 200 source systems.

Create a new source system

  1. Navigate to Administration > Metadata from the top menu bar on the Dataphin home page.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click General Configuration > Source System. On the Source System page, click Create New Source System.

  3. Fill in the parameters in the Create New Source System dialog box.

    Parameter

    Description

    Source System Name

    The globally unique name of the source system. Maximum length: 256 characters.

    Description

    A description of the source system, such as its scenarios and background. Maximum length: 2000 characters.

    System Type

    The type of source system, used to classify assets. You can quickly identify asset types in the metadata checklist and data lineage. Available types: operational system, data collection layer, data manipulation layer, application data service, data service (API), and report application.

    • Operational System: The source data layer where business systems (such as ERP, CRM, and production systems) generate and store data.

    • Data Collection Layer: Extracts data from multiple business systems or external data sources and performs preliminary processing, such as data cleansing and format transformation.

    • Data Manipulation Layer: Further cleanses, integrates, and transforms preliminarily processed data to generate subject-oriented data for analysis.

    • Application Data Service: Stores integrated subject data and provides it for analysis and reporting, typically in the form of a multidimensional model.

    • Data Service (API): Provides data to applications and services through APIs, supporting both internal and external data access needs.

    • Report Application: Business reports, dashboards, and other visualization displays generated from the application data service.

    Owner

    The operator of the source system, responsible for routine maintenance of the metadata under this source system. You can select users or user groups.

    • User: Select active users under the current tenant. Up to 200 users.

    • User Group: Select enabled user groups in normal status. Members update automatically when group membership changes. Up to 50 user groups.

    Contact

    The contact person for the source system. Maximum length: 256 characters.

  4. Click OK to create the source system.

Manage the source system list

  1. The Source System page displays the name, system type, description, operator, contact person, and latest update time of each source system.

  2. (Optional) Search for a specific source system using the name keyword or quickly filter the list by selecting Related To Me.

  3. To manage a source system, perform the desired actions in the operation column.

    Click the source system name or the View icon in the operation column to view source system details. You can also click Edit to modify the information.

    Edit

    Modify the configuration of the source system.

    Delete

    After deletion, the association between the source system and its data sources is automatically removed. If a collection task uses this source system as its affiliated system, update the collection task configuration before deleting.
