You can manage the scope and version history of metadata change records to optimize storage costs. This topic explains how to configure metadata change records.
Prerequisites
Activating the Asset Operation Standard Edition is necessary to configure metadata change records for computing source tables.
Permission description
Super administrators and system administrators have the authority to configure metadata change records for both computing and data source tables.
Precautions
-
After enabling metadata changes, you can view the historical versions of each object in the object details under Administration > Metadata > Metadata Checklist. Additionally, you can configure the display of metadata change records for individual objects on the table asset editing page that requires manual entry.
-
Maintaining numerous historical versions can burden the file storage system and potentially impact other features. It is advisable to configure this setting based on resource availability and business requirements.
Resource Usage Estimation: A full snapshot of each version includes table attributes and field details. For instance, a table with 20 fields, where the average field name is 50 characters, will require approximately 10 KB per version.
-
Changing the metadata change record from enabled status to shutdown status will result in the system disabling metadata changes and deleting all historical versions, except for the most recent one.
-
If you alter the saving scope of the source table from all tables to production environment tables, the system will automatically remove the corresponding development environment tables, preserving only the latest metadata change record for the production environment.
