Dataphin:Metadata change record

Last Updated:Jun 17, 2026

Manage the scope and version history of metadata change records to optimize storage costs.

Prerequisites

To configure metadata change records for computing source tables, you must activate the Asset Operation Standard Edition.

Permission description

Super administrators and system administrators can configure metadata change records for both computing and data source tables.

Precautions

  • After enabling metadata changes, you can view the historical versions of each object in the object details under Administration > Metadata > Metadata Checklist. You can also configure metadata change record display for individual objects on the table asset editing page that requires manual entry.

  • Maintaining numerous historical versions can burden file storage and impact other features. Configure this setting based on resource availability and business requirements.

Resource Usage Estimation: A full snapshot of each version includes table attributes and field details. For instance, a table with 20 fields, where the average field name is 50 characters, will require approximately 10 KB per version.

  • Changing the metadata change record from enabled status to shutdown status disables metadata changes and deletes all historical versions except the most recent one.

  • If you change the saving scope of the source table from all tables to production environment tables, the system automatically removes the corresponding development environment tables and preserves only the latest metadata change record for the production environment.

Metadata change record configuration

  1. On the Dataphin homepage, from the top menu bar, select Administration > Metadata.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, select General Configuration > Metadata Change Record. On the Metadata Change Record page, you can click the Edit button at the bottom to enable or disable metadata changes for the source table.

    • Computing Source Table Configuration: By default, this is disabled. Once enabled, you can configure the scope and the number of metadata change record versions to save.

      • Saving Scope: The default setting is Production Environment Tables. You can switch to All Tables.

      • Number Of Saved Versions: By default, the system saves the last two versions of change records. You can adjust the number of saved versions to any integer from 2 to 20.

    • Data Source Table Configuration is disabled by default. Once enabled, you can configure the scope and the number of metadata change record versions to save.

      • Saving Scope: The default setting is All Tables. You can switch to Production Environment Tables.

      • Number Of Saved Versions: By default, the system saves the last 10 versions of change records. You can adjust the number of saved versions within a range of 10 to 20 versions.

  3. Click OK to finalize the configuration of the metadata change record.
