If your current Dataphin instance type does not meet your business needs, you can upgrade the configuration. You can enable value-added feature packages or upgrade to a package with higher specifications.
Limits
You cannot upgrade the configuration if you have purchased the highest specifications for the data processing unit (DPU) and Data Quality of the Intelligent Development Edition and have enabled all optional value-added feature packages.
During an upgrade, the system compares the version of the current Dataphin instance with the Dataphin version recorded in the Compute Nest template. If the versions do not match, the upgrade is blocked. Contact the Dataphin operations team to complete the upgrade.
Upgrade configuration conversion
The expiration date of a newly purchased value-added feature package is the same as the expiration date of the existing instance.
The price for purchasing a value-added feature package is prorated based on the remaining duration of your current configuration. This calculation follows Alibaba Cloud standards. The formula is as follows:
Upgrade order price = Purchase amount for the remaining duration of the new configuration (Monthly unit price of the new configuration ÷ 30 ÷ 24 × Remaining duration) - Purchase amount for the remaining duration of the purchased configuration (Monthly unit price of the purchased configuration at the time of purchase ÷ 30 ÷ 24 × Remaining duration)In this formula,
Remaining duration = Expiration date of the existing instance - Time of the upgrade.
Upgrade configuration rules
Downgrading the Dataphin instance version is not supported.
Value-added feature upgrade configuration
You can enable value-added feature packages or upgrade the specifications of purchased packages. Value-added features include Real-time R&D, Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations, Data Standard, Data Quality, Asset Security, Resource Administration, Data Service, OpenAPI, Stream Pipeline, Tag Factory, Registered Scheduling Cluster, Tenant Quantity, Row-level Permission, Asset Operation, and Metadata Center (Data Management and metadata acquisition).
Value-added feature package | Description |
Real-time R&D | Processes stream data based on real-time engines. Supported engines include Alibaba Cloud Real-Time Computing Flink, Apache Flink, and FusionInsight Flink. |
Artificial intelligence for IT operations | Ensures the timeliness of business data output and system stability. It also reduces manual O&M costs and improves O&M efficiency. It includes baseline monitoring and throttling configuration features. |
Data Standard | Provides unified creation and management of standards, reference data management, and association of standards with asset metadata. Combined with quality monitoring, it helps enterprises enhance end-to-end asset governance across all stages. |
Asset Quality | Supports quality monitoring of data assets from physical and logical perspectives. It helps you efficiently configure quality rules and run verification jobs. It also provides data quality reports and overviews with clear permissions to help you quickly understand rule coverage and identify data quality threats. |
Asset Security | Manages data assets from a security perspective by setting data classification and grading, configuring identification rules, and setting up desensitization policies. It helps you get a full picture of asset security, identify security risks, and assist in formulating and implementing data security control policies. |
Resource Administration | Establishes a closed loop driven by metadata acquisition, unified metadata model creation, and core governance items. This supports the application layer capabilities of data asset management, serves asset managers and developers, and builds a manageable and controllable data asset health system. |
Data Service | Data Service unifies data subject units through standardized and configuration-based methods. It supports self-service API configuration, testing, pre-release, publishing, and call monitoring for subjects. It provides field-level control over data usage permissions, which lowers the barrier for business data consumption while ensuring the security of data development. |
OpenAPI | OpenAPI is the external operational entry point provided by Dataphin. It lets developers share data, features, and services among different applications, helping them develop and extend applications more efficiently. Dataphin provides OpenAPI interfaces for multiple functional modules, including development, O&M, assets, and platform management. |
Real-time integration | Supports incremental integration from MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL to Hive, Kafka, DataHub, and MaxCompute. It also supports synchronization from Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 to Kafka. |
Tag Factory | Provides offline and real-time tag development features for tag builders, such as developers or business personnel with development capabilities, through a visual tag processing method. This improves the efficiency of tag development and lowers the development barrier. |
Registered Scheduling Cluster | Supports connecting to a database in another network through a registered scheduling cluster. This avoids data transmission across networks. |
Tenant Quantity | Supports creating multiple tenants in a single Dataphin instance. Different tenants can rely on different compute engines. |
Row-level permissions | Supports row-level permission control for tables in compute sources and data sources. |
Asset Operation | Includes folder management (folder planning, asset listing), asset consumption, and asset folder features.
|
Metadata Center (Data Management + metadata acquisition) | Supports extracting, processing, centrally storing, and managing metadata from various business systems to support data governance. It also enhances the organization's ability to organize, retrieve, and analyze internal data. |
Procedure
Log on to the Alibaba Cloud official website with your Alibaba Cloud account.
On the Alibaba Cloud official website, hover over Products. In the navigation pane on the left, hover over Big Data Computing. In the Data Development and Service column, click Intelligent Data Construction and Governance Dataphin.
On the Dataphin product page, click Management Console or Enable Now (Semi-managed version) to open the Dataphin management console.
On the Dataphin management console, find your instance and click Purchase Value-added Features. You are redirected to the service instance page in Compute Nest.
On the service instance details page, click the Modify Configuration button to open the Modify Configuration dialog box.

In the Modify Configuration dialog box, click Next. Select the feature modules that you want to add, and then click Next.

Verify your selected feature modules and click Confirm. After you complete the payment, the upgrade process begins.
While a Dataphin instance is being upgraded, the Purchase Value-added Features button on the Dataphin management console is disabled. If you hover over the button, the message New feature is being deployed. View details appears. After the upgrade is successful, the Purchase Value-added Features button is enabled.
After a successful upgrade, you can click Purchase Value-added Features to perform another upgrade.
If the upgrade fails, contact the Dataphin operations and deployment team.
