Dataphin:Step 5: Build a data model

Last Updated:Jan 21, 2025

This topic outlines the steps to create data modeling objects.

Background information

Data modeling abstractly represents business processes through visualization, organizing objects and activities to enhance understanding and improvement of business operations. It also addresses information silos and data discrepancies from a data perspective. In Dataphin, the OneModel methodology categorizes the data modeling process into four distinct layers:

  • Subject area modeling: Within the data mid-end, a subject represents a macro analysis domain, such as "sales" for sales analysis. A subject area is a collection of related subjects, with each industry comprising multiple subject areas (typically around 10).

  • Conceptual modeling: This layer adds entities and their relationships within each subject area.

  • Logical modeling: Attributes and constraints are defined for each entity based on the conceptual model.

  • Business analysis modeling: This involves identifying key analysis methods and perspectives within the industry. Derived metrics and business filters are refined from the logical model to address specific business analysis challenges in Dataphin.

Step 1: Create a subject area

  1. On the Dataphin home page, single click Planning in the top menu bar.

  2. Follow the operation guide below, select the dataphin_tutorial data unit, and navigate to the Create Subject Area page.
