This topic describes how to calculate the fees for Data Transport.

Example 1: Billing based on the lease days

Important

You can lease a Data Transport II device only in regions within the Chinese mainland.
You can lease a Data Transport III device only in regions within the Chinese mainland, China (Hong Kong), and Indonesia (Jakarta).

Bob rents a Data Transport II device to migrate 80 TB of data to Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS). Bob confirmed the receipt of the device at 12:00 on November 4, 2023. The lease term is from 12:00 on November 05, 2023 to 12:00 on November 20, 2023. The total fee is USD 857.14.

Bob must notify Alibaba Cloud to retrieve the device before the end of the lease term and hand over the device to the logistics partner of Alibaba Cloud before 12:00 on November 27, 2023. Otherwise, Alibaba Cloud deems that the device is lost and charges Bob USD 14,285.71.

Example 2: Billing based on the data volume to be migrated

Important

This billing method is available only in regions within the Chinese mainland.

Bob rents a Data Transport III device to migrate 800 TB of data to Alibaba Cloud OSS. Bob confirmed the receipt of the device at 12:00 on October 9, 2019. The lease term is from 12:00 on October 10, 2019 to 12:00 on November 9, 2019. The total fee is calculated by using the following formula:

USD 1428.57 + (800 TB - 100 TB) x USD 11.43/TB = USD 9429.57.

Bob must notify Alibaba Cloud to retrieve the device before the end of the lease term and hand over the device to the logistics partner of Alibaba Cloud before 12:00 on November 16, 2019. Otherwise, Alibaba Cloud deems that the device is lost and charges Bob USD 64,285.71.

Bob rents a Data Transport Micro device to migrate data to Alibaba Cloud OSS for 6 months. The device has a maximum data capacity of 10 TB.

Bob replaced the device for the second time on June 28. The device was used for 16 days. It is calculated by using the following formula: (15 - 1) + (28 - 1 - 25) = 16. The actual minimum volume of data required for the current month is calculated by using the following formula: 10 TB/30 × 16 = 5.33 TB. The volume of data migrated to the cloud in the current month is less than 5.33 TB, Bob is charged for the migration of 5.33 TB of data.
7	10	40	5	72.86	2914.4	Bob received the new device on July 5. The device was used for 25 days. It is calculated by using the following formula: 30 - 5 = 25. The actual minimum volume of data required for the current month is calculated by using the following formula: 10 TB/30 × 25 = 8.33 TB. The volume of data migrated to the cloud in the current month exceeds the actual minimum volume of data required for the current month. Bob is charged based on the actual migrated data volume of 40 TB.

The actual minimum volume of data required for the current month is calculated by using the following formula: 10 TB/30 × 5 = 1.67 TB. The volume of data migrated to the cloud in the current month exceeds the actual minimum volume of data required for the current month. Bob is charged based on the actual migrated data volume of 5 TB.

Total cost

The total cost is USD 5,600.2. It is calculated by using the following formula: 340.24 + 728.6 + 874.32 + 388.34 + 2914.4 + 354.3 = 5600.2.

Device return

Bob must notify Alibaba Cloud to retrieve the device and hand over the device to the logistics partner of Alibaba Cloud within 7 days after he applies for the device return. Otherwise, Alibaba Cloud deems that the device is lost and charges Bob USD 5,714.29.

Example 4: Billing for the rental of multiple Data Transport Micro devices

You can lease a Data Transport Micro device only in regions within the Chinese mainland.

Bob rents two Data Transport Micro devices to migrate data to Alibaba Cloud OSS for 5 months. The devices have a data capacity of 10 TB and 20 TB respectively.

The total cost is USD 33,369.88. It is calculated by using the following formula: 655.74 + 1020.04 + 3643 + 1092.9 + 3643 + 7286 + 3643 + 7286 + 1457.2 + 3643 = 33369.88.
