A Cloud Storage Gateway upgrade that spans several versions may require several consecutive incremental upgrades, so an upgrade that is still in progress is not a failed upgrade. If an upgrade does fail, the gateway rolls back to the previous version automatically, and only a failed rollback requires you to contact Alibaba Cloud engineers.
Rule out an upgrade that is still in progress
A Cloud Storage Gateway instance that is several versions behind the latest gateway server version may require several consecutive incremental upgrades. Such an upgrade stays in progress until the final version is reached, so a long-running upgrade does not by itself mean that the upgrade failed. A failed upgrade surfaces as a rollback notification, and a failed rollback surfaces as an error message in the console. Treat the upgrade as failed only after one of these appears; until then, the incremental upgrades are still progressing.
While the incremental upgrades run:
No manual intervention — Cloud Storage Gateway runs the incremental upgrades one after another. No manual intervention is needed.
Wait for the final version — Wait until the upgrade to the final version is complete.
How Cloud Storage Gateway handles a failed upgrade
If an upgrade fails, Cloud Storage Gateway reacts without any action from you:
Automatic rollback — The gateway rolls back to the version that it ran before the upgrade, and a notification is displayed.
Failed rollback — If the rollback also fails, the console displays an error message.
Submit a ticket if the rollback fails
If the console displays an error message that indicates the rollback failed, submit a ticket to contact Alibaba Cloud engineers.
