Cloud Storage Gateway:CloudMonitor integration

Last Updated:Jun 20, 2026

This topic describes how to view monitoring information for file gateways and block gateways in the CloudMonitor console.

Prerequisites

A Cloud Storage Gateway instance is required. For more information, see Manage a file gateway in the CSG console.

Background

Note

Cloud Storage Gateway instances running version 1.3.0 or later support integrated monitoring in the CloudMonitor console.

  • Monitoring for a file gateway includes the following metrics: Gateway CPU user space utilization, per-share cache utilization, gateway memory utilization, per-share metadata utilization, per-share front-end read/write throughput, per-share upload queue length (available only in version 1.9.2 and later), per-share throttling status, per-share data upload speed, and NFS client connection usage percentage.

    Important

You should closely monitor the following three metrics: per-share metadata utilization, per-share upload queue length, and per-share throttling status. We recommend that you create an alert rule to monitor these metrics. For more information, see Create an alert rule.

    • Per-share metadata utilization: We recommend that you configure the alert rule based on the size of the cache disk.

      • If the cache disk is 100 GB or smaller, we recommend that you set the alert condition to per-share metadata utilization for file gateways > 80%.

      • If the cache disk is 500 GB or larger, we recommend that you set the alert condition to per-share metadata utilization for file gateways > 90%.

For more information, see Insufficient metadata space.

    • Per-share upload queue length: We recommend that you set the alert condition to upload queue > 10000. For more information, see Upload queue accumulation.

    • Per-share throttling status: We recommend that you set the alert condition to per-share throttling status for file gateways = 1. For more information, see Throttling.

  • Monitoring for a block gateway includes the following metrics: Gateway CPU user space utilization, gateway memory utilization, and per-volume cache utilization.

View monitoring information

  1. Log on to the CloudMonitor console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Dashboard > Cloud Service Monitoring Dashboard.

  3. On the Cloud Service Monitoring Dashboard page, select Cloud Storage Gateway, the corresponding region, and gateway ID to view the monitoring charts.

The monitoring charts include metrics such as Gateway CPU user space utilization (%) and Per-share cache utilization for file gateways (%). You can use the time range selector to view data for periods ranging from 1 hour to 14 days.

Create an alert rule

  1. On the Cloud Service Monitoring Dashboard page, click Create Alert Rule.

  2. On the Create Alert Rule page, configure the parameters as shown in the following table and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Product

    Select Cloud Storage Gateway.

    resource range

    • All Resources: Monitors all resources.

    • Application Groups: Monitors resources within a specified application group.

    • Instances: Monitors a specific instance.

    associated resources

Select the Cloud Storage Gateway instance that you want to monitor.

    Rule description

Enter a description for the alert rule.

    Add Rule

Click Add Rule to create a new rule. For more information, see Add a rule.

    mute for

    Select an appropriate mute period.

    Effective period

Specify the period during which the rule is active.

    alert contact group

    Select an alert contact group.

    tag

Enter a tag key and value.

    alert callback

Enter a public URL for the alert callback.

    Note

The URL must start with http://. IP addresses are not supported.

    Table 1. Add a rule

    Parameter

    Description

    Rule name

Enter a name for the alert rule.

    Metric Type

Select a metric type. Valid values:

    • Simple Metric: Select a metric, then set its threshold and alert level.

    • Combined Metrics: Select an alert level, then define an alert condition using two or more metrics.

      Note

Multi-metric alert rules require the target resource to report data for every included metric. For example, if the rule includes a public network metric but the ECS instance has no public IP address, the alert does not trigger.

    • Expression: Select an alert level, then define an alert expression.

    • Dynamic Threshold: Smart threshold details: Overview | Create a smart threshold alert rule.

    metric

Select the metric to monitor. Valid values include:

    • Gateway CPU user space utilization.

    • Gateway memory utilization.

    • Per-share cache utilization for file gateways.

    • Per-share metadata utilization for file gateways.

    • NFS client connection usage percentage for file gateways.

    • Per-share front-end read/write throughput for file gateways.

    • Throttling status of each share on the file gateway.

    • Upload queue.

    • Per-share data upload speed for file gateways.

    • Per-volume cache utilization for block gateways.

    Select dimension

Select the share to monitor. If you do not select a share, CloudMonitor monitors all shares of the gateway.

    Comparison

The operator for comparing the metric value to the threshold. An alert is triggered if the condition is met. Valid values include:

    • >=: Greater than or equal to the threshold.

    • >: Greater than the threshold.

    • <=: Less than or equal to the threshold.

    • <: Less than the threshold.

    • =: Equal to the threshold.

    • !=: Not equal to the threshold.

    • Day-over-day increase.

    • Day-over-day decrease.

    • Week-over-week increase.

    • Week-over-week decrease.

    • Period-over-period increase.

    • Period-over-period decrease.

    Threshold and alert level

Configure the threshold and alert level.

Example

The following example shows how to create an alert rule that triggers when metadata utilization is 90% or higher.

  1. On the Cloud Service Monitoring Dashboard page, click Create Alert Rule.

  2. For Product, select Cloud Storage Gateway.

  3. For resource range, select Instances.

  4. For associated resources, select the gateway instance that you want to monitor.

  5. Click Add Rule to open the Add Rule Description page.

  6. On the Add Rule Description page, enter a rule name. Set Single Metric to Single Metric and Single Metric to Per-share metadata utilization for file gateways. In the monitoring dimension section, select the share that you want to monitor. Set the alert level to Critical and the threshold to 90. Then, click OK to return to the Create Alert Rule page.

  7. On the Create Alert Rule page, select an alert contact group and click Confirm.

Related operations

Different use cases require different time granularities. You can select a built-in time granularity or specify a custom time granularity.
