Compute Nest:Overview of configuration change

Last Updated:Apr 01, 2026

Compute Nest lets you update the cloud resource configurations and private network connections of your service instances as business requirements evolve.

What is configuration change

When you create a service instance, you select a parameter set or configure individual parameters. Configuration change is the act of modifying those parameters or switching to a different parameter set after the instance is running.

For a service instance to support configuration changes, the service provider must enable the configuration change feature when creating the service and specify which parameters can be changed and what change types are allowed.

Change types at a glance

The following table summarizes the three change types, where each is performed, and how fees are calculated.

Change cloud resource configurations

After a service provider enables configuration change, you can update the parameters or parameter set of a running service instance from the Compute Nest console. Changing the configuration also changes the cloud resource fees.

Before confirming the change, you can preview the new fees on the configuration change page:

  • Pay-as-you-go resources: the new pay-as-you-go price is displayed.

  • Subscription resources: the price difference between the current and new configuration is displayed.

For step-by-step instructions, see Change the configurations of a service instance.

Change Marketplace configurations

For services published to Alibaba Cloud Marketplace, configuration changes are performed in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace rather than the Compute Nest console. Two fee types apply: a resource fee and a software fee.

The fees displayed depend on the service instance type:

  • Private service instance: both the resource fee and the software fee (if applicable) are displayed. You pay both.

  • Fully managed service instance: only the software fee is displayed. You pay only the software fee.

For step-by-step instructions, see Change the configurations of a service instance in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace.

Change network configurations

You can update the private network access configuration of fully managed service instances from the Compute Nest console. This applies when the service instance was created from a fully managed service that supports private connections, such as PrivateLink or virtual private cloud (VPC) peering connections.

Supported operations:

  • Add a private connection

  • Remove a private connection

  • Modify an existing private connection

For step-by-step instructions, see Change network configurations.
