Cloud Config:ecs-instance-post-paid-stopped-mode-check

Last Updated:Jun 23, 2026

Evaluates whether stopped pay-as-you-go Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances use the economical mode. Instances that use this mode are evaluated as Compliant.

Scenarios

The economical mode recycles some resources of a stopped ECS instance while retaining the instance itself. This reduces costs but introduces resource exhaustion risks.

Risk level

Default risk level: low.

You can change the risk level based on your business requirements when you apply this rule.

Compliance evaluation logic

  • If the pay-as-you-go ECS instance uses the economical mode when they are stopped, the evaluation result is Compliant.
  • If the pay-as-you-go ECS instance does not use the economical mode when they are stopped, the evaluation result is Incompliant. For more information, see the "Incompliance remediation" section of this topic.
  • This rule does not apply to subscription ECS instances or instances in the running state. The economical mode is not supported for these instances, and they are always evaluated as Incompliant.
