This topic describes the usage notes and limits on the features and service performance of CloudBox.
Usage notes
You can only purchase and use the CloudBox service. The hardware facilities belong to Alibaba Cloud.
Cloud boxes can be deployed only in data centers that meet delivery conditions. Before you submit orders in the CloudBox console, make sure that you understand the delivery conditions of cloud boxes. After you submit orders, Alibaba Cloud engineers perform an on-site survey on your data center and provide renovation suggestions. For more information about the requirements for the on-premises data center where a cloud box can be deployed, see Deployment requirements.
After a cloud box is deployed in a data center that you specify, you cannot physically move the rack of the cloud box without a written authorization from Alibaba Cloud.
General limits
You can purchase up to 50 cloud box racks within a region.
You cannot physically move the rack of a cloud box across regions.
You cannot purchase custom servers or use your existing servers.
You cannot use your existing rack for a cloud box and existing switches in a cloud box.
If the network connection of a cloud box is interrupted, the services provided by the cloud box are degraded and the following limits take effect:
You cannot exchange data between the cloud box and Alibaba Cloud public cloud. For example, you cannot upload snapshots of the cloud box to Alibaba Cloud public cloud, upgrade the system, migrate Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances to Alibaba Cloud public cloud, or manage CloudBox resources in the Alibaba Cloud Management Console.
ECS instances and disks in a cloud box are interconnected. A cloud box and on-premises devices are interconnected. However, Object Storage Service (OSS) in a cloud box is not supported.
ECS instances in a cloud box do not support failover.
API operations for CloudBox are not supported.
For more information about the limits of cloud services related to CloudBox, see the help documentation of each service.
ECS instances
Item | Limit |
Migration of ECS instances to Alibaba Cloud public cloud | You can cold migrate only ECS instances that are in the Running state to Alibaba Cloud public cloud. You cannot migrate ECS instances that failed to run to Alibaba Cloud public cloud. Hot migration is not supported. |
Failover | Failover is not supported if the number of ECS instances that failed to run is greater than that of ECS instances that can be created by using the instance types specified in CloudBox. |
Auto scaling | You can perform auto scaling only for ECS instances in a cloud box. |
Change of configurations across instance families | Instance families included in compute stock keeping units (SKUs) of cloud boxes are fixed. You cannot change the instance types of ECS instances in a cloud box. |
Change of private IP address | You cannot change the private IP addresses of ECS instances in a cloud box. |
EBS
Item | Limit |
Block storage cluster | A cloud box corresponds to a block storage cluster. You cannot delete the cluster or reduce the capacity of the cluster. |
Change of disk specifications | A cloud box supports only one disk category. You cannot change the specifications of the disks. |
Disk type | Only PL0 enhanced SSDs (ESSDs) are supported. |
Disk attaching | Disks in a cloud box can be attached to only ECS instances in the cloud box. |
Disk resizing |
|
Disk encryption | You cannot encrypt disks in a cloud box. |
OSS
Item | Limit |
Bucket quantity | An Alibaba Cloud account can be used to create up to 100 buckets in CloudBox. |
Storage type | Only Standard buckets and objects are supported. |
Encryption method | Objects can be encrypted on the server only by using SSE-OSS. SSE-KMS is not supported. |
Access method | The internal endpoint is provided for access. The public endpoint is not supported. If you want to transfer OSS data between CloudBox and Alibaba Cloud public cloud, you must establish network connections between CloudBox and Alibaba Cloud public cloud and use ossimport to transfer data. For more information, see Overview. |
Network
Item | Limit |
EIP | You cannot directly associate elastic IP addresses (EIPs) with ECS and Server Load Balancer (SLB) instances in a cloud box. |
SLB |
|
IPv6 | CloudBox vSwitches do not support IPv6 CIDR blocks. |
GA | You cannot use ECS instances in a cloud box as the backend server of Global Accelerator (GA). |
VPC | A virtual private cloud (VPC) that contains CloudBox vSwitches has the following limits:
CloudBox vSwitches do not support the following features:
You cannot create CloudBox vSwitches if VPCs meet the following conditions:
|
VPN Gateway | You cannot create a VPN gateway for CloudBox vSwitches. |
NAT Gateway (NAT) | You cannot create a NAT gateway for CloudBox vSwitches. |
PrivateLink | You cannot create PrivateLink endpoint services and a PrivateLink endpoint for CloudBox vSwitches. |
Express Connect circuit |
|
Internet Shared Bandwidth | You cannot create EIP bandwidth plans in CloudBox zones. |
CEN |
|
Snapshot
Item | Limit |
Regions where snapshots are used | You can use snapshots only in the cloud box in which the snapshots are stored. |
Image
Item | Limit |
Regions where images are used | You can use the images in a cloud box only in the region where the cloud box resides, such as in Alibaba Cloud public cloud or other cloud boxes that reside in the same region. |
Deployment sets
Item | Limit |
Deployment set limits | You can use deployment sets to deploy ECS instances in a cloud box only in the region where the cloud box resides. |
