This topic describes how to plan resources for cross-zone disaster recovery. Before you perform disaster recovery, you must plan the information required for the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances to be protected. The information includes the instance type, network allocation, and storage information such as the disk types and capacities.
ECS instances
Regions are geographical locations where Alibaba Cloud data centers are deployed. After you create a resource in a region, you cannot change the region to which the resource belongs. Each region has multiple isolated locations known as zones. Each zone has its own independent power supply and network.
Limits may be imposed on the regions and zones in which disaster recovery is supported by Hybrid Disaster Recovery (HBR). In the Create Disaster Recovery Site Pair panel in the Cloud Backup console, you can check the supported regions and zones.
During the disaster recovery process, Cloud Backup replicates all data from the production site to the disaster recovery site. Before you perform disaster recovery, you must plan and confirm that sufficient storage resources are available at the disaster recovery site. You must also understand the regions, zones, and ECS instance types that support disaster recovery.
Network
During the disaster recovery process, Cloud Backup replicates all data from the production site to the disaster recovery site over the network of the disaster recovery site. You must create the virtual private clouds (VPCs), vSwitches, and security group rules required for the disaster recovery site. For more information, see Create a VPC with an IPv4 CIDR block, Create and manage a vSwitch, and Create a security group.
