Cloud Backup:Backup alerts

The backup alert feature sends an email to your Alibaba Cloud account by default if a backup job fails or a backup client disconnects from the server. You can also customize the notification method and specify the notification contacts and contact groups to receive these alerts.

Note

A notification contact receives a backup alert approximately one hour after a backup job fails or a backup client disconnects from the server.

Create a notification contact

A notification contact is a recipient of backup alerts. To create a notification contact, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Notification Contacts.

  3. Click the Contacts tab.

  4. On the Contacts page, click Create Contact.

  5. In the Create Contact panel, enter a Contact name.

  6. For Notification method, select Email.

    After you select Email as the notification method, enter an email address in the Email field, and then click Send. Log on to your email account to find the verification code. Return to the Cloud Backup console and enter the Verification code.

  7. Click OK.

    Note
    • On the Notification Contacts page, you can view all notification contacts and their details.

    • You can click Edit to change the contact's email address.

    • You cannot delete a notification contact that is assigned to receive alert notifications or is a member of a contact group.

Create a contact group

If you want multiple people to receive alert notifications, you can create a contact group to simplify management. Add the desired notification contacts to the group. When an alert is triggered, the system sends notifications to all members of the group.

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Notification Contacts.

  3. On the Groups tab, click Create Group.

  4. In the Create Group panel, enter a Group Name.

  5. Select the contacts to add to the group and click the image.png button. The selected contacts appear in the Selected Contacts box.

  6. Click OK.

    Note
    • On the Groups page, you can view all contact groups and the number of members in each group.

    • You can click Edit to modify a contact group.

    • You cannot delete a contact group that is assigned to receive alert notifications.

Customize alert policies

Cloud Backup lets you set up backup alerts for vaults and backup clients.

Note

If you do not configure a specific alert policy for a vault or backup client, the system defaults to sending backup alert notifications to your Alibaba Cloud account by email.

  • Configure an alert policy for a vault

    You can configure a unified alert policy for a vault, which applies to all associated ECS, on-premises file, and on-premises virtual machine backup clients. If you have not configured a separate alert policy for a specific backup client, it inherits the policy from its vault by default.

    1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

    2. On the Overview page, find the vault for which you want to configure an alert policy.

    3. In the upper-right corner of the vault, choose Settings > Modify Backup Vault.

    4. In the Modify Backup Vault panel, select an alert policy.

      No backup alert notifications are sent for any backup client or instance in this vault.

      Notify Alibaba Cloud account

      Backup alert notifications for this vault are sent by email to the Alibaba Cloud account by default.

      Custom

      You must select one or more notification contacts or contact groups. Once configured, backup alerts for this vault are sent to the selected recipients.

    5. Click OK.

  • Configure an alert policy for a backup client

    You can configure a separate alert policy for an individual backup client. This policy overrides any vault-level or default alert settings.

    1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Backup > On-Premises File Backup.

    3. On the Clients page, find the target backup client, and in the Actions column, choose More > Alert Settings.

    4. In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an alert method.

      No backup alert notifications are sent for this backup client.

      Same as vault

      The backup client uses the alert policy configured for its vault.

      Notify Alibaba Cloud account

      Backup alert notifications for this backup client are sent by email to the Alibaba Cloud account by default.

      Custom

      You must select one or more notification contacts or contact groups. Once configured, backup alerts for this backup client are sent to the selected recipients.

    5. Click OK.
