Cloud Backup:How to reactivate an existing client after reinstalling the operating system or changing the MAC address

Last Updated:Nov 18, 2025

When you back up local files, you may need to reinstall the Cloud Backup client. This can happen if you reinstall the operating system or if the MAC address of your network interface card or virtual machine changes. To access your original backup data after reinstallation, install the client using the activation code from your original client.

Procedure

  1. Obtain the activation code of the original client

On the Clients tab of the Local File Backup page, in the Actions column for the client, click > Reactivate Client to obtain an activation code.

    Important

The activation code expires. If the code expires before you activate the client, refresh the page to obtain a new code and try again.

  2. Use the original client's activation code to install the new client

On the Clients tab of the Local File Backup page, click Add Client and activate the client based on its operating system.

    • For Windows: Download and install the client. On the installation interface, enter the activation code of the original client.

    • For Linux: Activate the client automatically or manually as needed. In the command, replace the placeholder with the activation code of the original client.

FAQ

Why do two client records appear in the client list?

If you use a new activation code to add the client, two records may appear in the console.

In this case, you must stop the client service and reactivate the client using the original activation code. The steps are as follows:

  1. Stop the client service: Perform the corresponding operation based on the operating system.

  2. Delete the new client and its backup data: On the Clients tab of the Local File Backup page, click > Delete Backup in the Actions column for the new client.

    Important
    • After you delete the backup, the client and its backup data are deleted and cannot be recovered.

    • Activate the original client and complete a backup to ensure data is available before you delete the new client's backup data.

  3. Reactivate a client: On the Local File Backup page, click the Clients tab. In the Actions column of the client, click > Reactivate Client to obtain the activation command. Then, execute the command on the client.
