ApsaraDB for ClickHouse:Minor Engine Version Upgrade

Last Updated:Feb 02, 2026

An outdated minor engine version can cause service interruptions or data loss. ApsaraDB for ClickHouse supports manual minor engine version updates. These updates include performance improvements, new features, or bug fixes.

Notes

  • Minor engine version updates are supported only for clusters purchased after December 1, 2021.

  • Impact of updates on service:

    • Community-Compatible Edition: The cluster restarts, and the service may be unavailable for 1 to 5 minutes (this is an average estimate; actual duration may vary significantly based on the number of parts in the cluster and cold storage usage—refer to recent cluster restart times for guidance). Perform the update during off-peak hours and ensure your application has an automatic reconnection mechanism.

    • Enterprise Edition: Nodes in the cluster restart in batches, ensuring at least half of the nodes remain available to serve requests at all times.

  • When a new minor engine version is released, ApsaraDB for ClickHouse sends a notification to the contact specified in your Alibaba Cloud account. Update the minor engine version promptly. If you do not upgrade to the latest minor engine version within six months of receiving the notification, you are responsible for any resulting service interruptions, data loss, or other consequences.

  • You cannot downgrade the minor engine version after an upgrade.

  • During a minor engine version update, you can view cluster information but cannot perform operations such as upgrading specifications, scaling out, scaling in, restarting the cluster, or modifying parameter settings.

  • If an asterisk (*) appears for the Minor Version in the ApsaraDB for ClickHouse console, the current version does not support minor engine version updates.

Update the minor engine version

  1. Log on to the ApsaraDB for ClickHouse console.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the page, select the region where the destination cluster is located.

  3. On the Clusters page, click the ID of the destination cluster to go to the cluster information page.

    Note

The minor engine version update takes approximately 10 minutes. The update succeeds when the cluster status changes to Running.
