Chat App Message Service:Best practices for multi-language templates with AI Translation

Last Updated:Mar 23, 2026

The AI Translation feature in Chat App Message Service lets you quickly create and automatically translate templates for target languages based on a saved source language template. This streamlines the configuration of multi-language templates.

Feature overview

In international messaging scenarios, you often need to maintain multiple language versions of a single message template. Traditionally, creating content for each language manually is costly and can lead to inconsistencies.

You can use this feature when creating or editing a template to significantly reduce the cost of maintaining multi-language templates.

Note

The AI Translation feature currently supports only marketing templates and utility templates for WhatsApp channels.

Use cases

AI Translation is suitable for the following use cases:

  • Quickly adding other languages after editing the content for one language.

  • Adding new language versions to an existing template.

  • Improving the efficiency of creating and maintaining multi-language templates.

Limitations

When you use AI Translation, note the following limitations:

  • The Source Language must be a language version with saved content.

  • You cannot use an unsaved language version as the Source Language.

  • After AI Translation is complete, the system automatically generates the content for the Target Language template. You can still edit it manually.

  • We recommend that you manually verify the translation results before you submit the template for review or deployment.

Use AI Translation

You can use AI Translation in the following two ways:

Method 1: During template creation

When you create a message template, you can start an AI Translation to quickly generate versions for other target languages after you finish editing and saving the content for one language.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Chat App Message Service console.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Channel Management.

  3. On the Channel Management page, find the WhatsApp channel that you want to manage and click its Channel ID or Manage.

  4. On the channel action page, choose Template Design.

  5. In the Add dialog box, enter a Template Name, and select a Category and Language.

  6. Finish editing the template content and save the content for the current language.

  7. Click AI Translation.

  8. In the dialog box that appears, configure the following parameters:

    • Select Source Language: You can only select a language version with saved content.

    • Target Language: Select the target language you want to create.

  9. Click Start Translation.

  10. The system automatically creates and translates the content for the Target Language template. If the translation fails, click Retry.

  11. In the Language list on the left, check the translation result and make changes if necessary.

  12. Click Save to save the content of the Target Language template.

Note
  • We recommend that you select a language version with complete and accurate content as the Source Language.

  • If the template contains brand names, proper nouns, variable placeholders, or special terms, we recommend that you carefully check them after the translation is complete.

Method 2: When adding a language

For existing templates, you can use AI Translation by adding a new language on the template editing page.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Chat App Message Service console.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Channel Management.

  3. On the Channel Management page, find the WhatsApp channel that you want to manage and click its Channel ID or Manage.

  4. On the Template Design page, find the template that you want to edit and click its Template Name or click Edit in the Actions column.

  5. In the language list on the left, click Add Language.

  6. In the dialog box that appears, select the Target Language you want to add, and then select whether to Use AI Translation.

    1. Do Not Use: A blank template is created for the Target Language. You must enter the content manually. Click Confirm to finish.

    2. Use: You must then select a Select Source Language. You can only select a language version with saved content. Click Use AI Translation to finish.

  7. The system automatically generates and translates the content for the Target Language template based on the Source Language content.

  8. Check the translation result and make changes if necessary.

  9. Click Save to save the content of the Target Language template.

Note

This method is suitable for the following scenarios:

  • Adding more language versions to an existing template.

  • Gradually adding multi-language templates based on business requirements in various countries and regions.

  • Continuously maintaining international message content based on existing templates.

Best practices

For better translation results and template management experience, we recommend following these practices:

Start with the primary language

We recommend that you first finish editing and saving the primary language template before using AI Translation to generate other language versions. This practice ensures consistency in structure and meaning across different language templates.

Use a high-quality source language

The quality of the AI Translation result depends on the quality of the Source Language content. We recommend using a template with clear logic, complete content, and standardized expressions as the translation source.

Manually verify after translation

Although AI Translation significantly improves efficiency, we recommend manually verifying the following types of content:

  • Brand names

  • Product names

  • Fixed business terms

  • Legal or compliance-related statements

  • Dynamic variables and parameter placeholders

  • Notification content for important customers or critical business scenarios

FAQ

Why can't I select a source language?

Possible reasons include:

  • You have not saved the content for that language version.

  • There are no saved language versions available in the current template.

  • The selected language does not meet the requirements for a Source Language.

We recommend that you finish editing and saving the content for that language version before you try to use AI Translation again.

Can an unsaved language be the source?

No. The Source Language must be a language version with saved content.

Why is AI Translation unavailable?

Currently, the AI Translation feature is available only for WhatsApp channels. It supports marketing templates and utility templates.

Can I edit content after AI Translation?

Yes. After AI Translation generates the content for a Target Language, you can continue to adjust and refine it based on your business needs.

Is AI Translation suitable for all scenarios?

AI Translation is suitable for most multi-language template creation scenarios. For templates with strict terminology, compliance, or localization requirements, we recommend manually optimizing the content after using AI Translation.
