Backup and Disaster Recovery Center:Resource categorization

Last Updated:Feb 28, 2025

Backup and Disaster Recovery Center (BDRC) offers the resource categorization feature that allows you to divide resources into specific categories based on resource tags and evaluate the resources for better data protection. Resource categorization provides data protection scores, which enables you to efficiently monitor the protection status of your cloud resources and identify and address potential risks. This topic provides a comprehensive description of resource categorization, including the feature overview, limits, and usage procedures.

Feature overview

  • BDRC provides three built-in resource categories: Critical, Important, and General. You can also create custom resource categories.

  • Resource categorization allows you to categorize resources that fall within one or all of the following resource types: Elastic Compute Service (ECS), Object Storage Service (OSS), File Storage NAS (NAS), and Tablestore.

  • After you create a resource category, you can associate up to 30 tags with the resource category. BDRC automatically detects resources that meet the tag rules of a specific resource category.

    • For each tag rule, you must specify a tag key, a tag value, and an operator. You can specify one of the following operators in a tag rule: Equals, Does not equal, and Any value.

    • A resource is included in a resource category only if the resource meets all tag rules of the resource category. You can enter a tag key or value in the text box or select one from the drop-down list.

  • If a resource matches multiple resource categories, it is scored in each resource category. In the statistics for the corresponding resource type, the data protection score of the resource is displayed only once.

  • BDRC automatically updates data protection scores on the Overview page on a daily basis. You can also click Check All Resource to immediately update the data protection statistics.

Limits

  • Resource categorization allows you to categorize resources that fall within one or all of the following resource types: ECS, OSS, NAS, and Tablestore.

  • The total number of built-in and custom resource categories cannot exceed 10.

  • You cannot change the name or the associated resource type of a built-in resource category. You cannot delete a built-in resource category.

  • A resource category can have up to 30 tag rules.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the BDRC console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resource Center > Resource Category. On the Resource Category page, click Create Resource Category.

    Note

If built-in resource categories (Critical, Important, and General) can meet your needs, you can directly associate tags with the corresponding category by clicking Edit in the Actions column.

    Parameter

    Description

    Resource Category Name

Specify the name of the resource category. The name can be up to 128 characters in length.

    Resource Type

Select a resource type from the drop-down list. The resource category can encompass either one or all of the following resource types: ECS, OSS, NAS, and Tablestore.

    Associated Tags

    • You can specify one of the following operators in a tag rule: Equals, Does not equal, and Any value.

    • A resource is included in a resource category only if the resource meets all tag rules of the resource category.

You can enter a tag key or value in the text box or select one from the drop-down list.

  4. After the resource category is created, check the resource types and the number of matched resources.

  5. On the Overview page, check the data protection scores by resource category. You can select one or more resource categories to view the data protection scores. If you select multiple resource categories, scores are given based on the resources that are included in these resource categories. The Data Protection Score Distribution chart and Risk Resource TOP-10 rankings are linked to the scores for the resource categories on the left side.

Modify a resource category

To modify a resource category, find the resource category and click Edit in the Actions column.
