As of August 26, 2022, ApsaraMQ for Kafka no longer supports purchasing instances based on topic specifications.
As of August 26, 2022, ApsaraMQ for Kafka no longer supports purchasing instances by topic. The quotas on this page apply only to instances purchased before that date. For the current purchasing model, see Billing overview.
Each ApsaraMQ for Kafka instance purchased by topic includes a set number of free topics and partitions, determined by the traffic specification and edition. The following tables list these quotas for all supported traffic specifications across three edition and performance mode combinations:
Standard Edition (High Write) -- 5 traffic specifications
Professional Edition (High Write) -- 16 traffic specifications
Professional Edition (High Read) -- 16 traffic specifications
Traffic specifications define the maximum read and write throughput of the elastic network interfaces (ENIs) attached to the instance. Higher traffic specifications include more free topics and partitions.
Standard Edition (High Write)

alikafka.hw.200xlarge | 3 × 2,000 | 3 × 2,000 | 1,000 | 10,000 |
Professional Edition (High Read)
Professional Edition (High Read) instances use an asymmetric throughput model: read traffic is higher than write traffic for the same specification tier. This suits workloads with a high consumer-to-producer ratio.
| Traffic specification | Max ENI read traffic (MB/s) | Max ENI write traffic (MB/s) | Free topics | Free partitions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
alikafka.hw.2xlarge | 50 + 2 × 10 | 10 + 2 × 10 | 50 | 1,100 |

Edition comparison
The following table summarizes quota ranges by edition and performance mode.
| Edition | Free topics | Free partitions | Throughput model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition (High Write) | 50 -- 150 | 400 -- 900 | Symmetric read/write |
| Professional Edition (High Write) | 50 -- 1,000 | 1,100 -- 10,000 | Symmetric read/write |
| Professional Edition (High Read) | 50 -- 1,000 | 1,100 -- 10,000 | Asymmetric (higher read) |
At the same traffic specification tier, Professional Edition instances include significantly more free partitions than Standard Edition instances. For example, at the 2xlarge tier, Standard Edition (High Write) includes 400 free partitions, while Professional Edition (High Write) includes 1,100.
