ApsaraDB RDS:Expand storage capacity

Last Updated:Mar 29, 2023

If the storage capacity of your serverless ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server instance no longer meets your business requirements, you can manually expand the storage capacity.

Scenarios

  • If your business operations require large storage within a short period of time, you can expand the storage capacity in advance to prevent operation failures caused by insufficient storage. The operations include data import, database migration to the cloud, write operations for large-volume data, and O&M that generates heavy load, such as data archive.

  • If the storage usage of your serverless RDS instance reaches 80% or higher, you can expand the storage capacity of the instance to prevent the instance from being affected by insufficient storage.

Prerequisites

Your Alibaba Cloud account does not have unpaid renewal orders.

Usage notes

  • If you expand the storage capacity of your serverless RDS instance, the operations on the databases, accounts, and networks related to the instance are not affected.

  • The storage capacity expansion does not cause transient connections. The new storage settings take effect within approximately 2 minutes.

  • After you expand the storage capacity of your serverless RDS instance, you cannot shrink the storage capacity.

Billing

You are charged for a serverless ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server instance based on the number of RDS Capacity Units (RCUs) and the storage usage. The following table describes how you are charged based on the status of your serverless RDS instance. You are charged based on the new storage settings after expansion.
