Suggestion

ApsaraDB RDS instances that run MySQL 5.6 on RDS High-availability Edition

The RDS instances work as expected. The ApsaraDB RDS team continues to update and maintain these RDS instances until February 5, 2024.

Issues such as security concerns and low service availability that are caused by phased-out minor engine versions are no longer updated or resolved. In this case, service unavailability exceptions caused by these issues are not covered by the service level agreement (SLA).

Upgrade the major engine version of these RDS instances to MySQL 5.7 or MySQL 8.0. For more information, see Upgrade the major engine version.

ApsaraDB RDS instances that run MySQL 5.6 on RDS Enterprise Edition

You can still use these RDS instances. However, the ApsaraDB RDS team stops updating and maintaining the minor engine version from June 1, 2022, and Alibaba Cloud technical support is no longer available.

Issues such as security concerns and low service availability that are caused by phased-out minor engine versions are no longer updated or resolved. In this case, service unavailability exceptions caused by these issues are not covered by the SLA.

Upgrade the major engine version of these RDS instances to MySQL 5.7 or MySQL 8.0 for more features and better performance. Before you upgrade the major engine version of an RDS instance that runs MySQL 5.6 on RDS Enterprise Edition, you must create an RDS instance that runs MySQL 5.7 or MySQL 8.0 on RDS Enterprise Edition and then use Data Transmission Service (DTS) to migrate data to the new RDS instance. For more information, see Create an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance and Migrate data between ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instances.

Note

After the migration is complete, you must monitor your workloads on the new RDS instance for a period of time. If your workloads run as expected on the new RDS instance, you can release or unsubscribe from your original RDS instance. For more information, see Release or unsubscribe from an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.
