When you purchase an AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster, you must select the specifications of reserved resources and a billing method, such as subscription or pay-as-you-go, to pay for the reserved resources. When you use the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster, you can change the billing method based on your business requirements. This topic describes the differences between the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods, how fees are changed when you change the billing method, and how to change the billing method.
Billing methods
Pay-as-you-go: You are charged on an hourly basis for the resources that you use. This billing method is suitable for short-term usage. To reduce costs, you can release pay-as-you-go clusters when they are no longer needed.
The reserved resources of Enterprise Edition and Basic Edition are billed on an hourly basis. The duration less than 1 hour is calculated as a full hour. Other billable items are billed by minute.
The resources of Data Lakehouse Edition are billed by minute.
The resources of Data Warehouse Edition are billed on an hourly basis. The duration less than 1 hour is calculated as a full hour.
Subscription: You must pay an upfront subscription fee when you create subscription clusters. For long-term use, the subscription billing method is more cost-effective than the pay-as-you-go billing method. You are charged lower prices for longer subscription durations.
Billing rules
If you change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription, you must pay subscription fees. You can view the payable amount in the AnalyticDB for MySQL console.
If you change the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go, you may obtain a refund of subscription fees. You can view the refund amount in the AnalyticDB for MySQL console.
Change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription
Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console and go to the Clusters page. Find the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster for which you want to change the billing method.
In the Actions column, click Switch to Subscription.
Select a subscription duration and view the expiration time and the payable amount.
Click Buy Now and complete the payment as prompted.
Change the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go
Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console and go to the Clusters page. Find the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster for which you want to change the billing method.
In the Actions column, choose .
Read the notes for changing the billing method, view the refund amount and the unit price based on the pay-as-you-go billing method, and then click Buy Now.
